Nothing anyone can say makes the pain less or the hurt go away.
I've had 2 cats have to be put to sleep due to old age, and a young cat who had terminal kidney failure (was my dad's cat and that was a 'sore one').
Please try to find a little comfort that your little fur baby wasn't left to crawl under a bush somewhere, badly injured, alone etc. It's horrible but the suffering could have been much worse.
I am sure you made her time here a very happy and pleasurable (and probably a very spoilt) time as well. Take comfort in those memories: you gave her the best.
I hope the swine that caused all of this feels one day how sore something like this is.

You are so right. I took my father's cat's death, harder than I took his. Perhaps coz of the tie to my dad, but regardless: I simply went to pieces when his cat had to be put down.......... and it took months for me to get over it.
Now have another cat - got her 6mths later, took a few months for me to bond - but love her more than anything and would physically attack (yes...) anyone who deliberately harmed her. Awful thing to admit, but I would.

I think your lovely words have brought huge comfort to me and I am so glad that our baby wasn't my dad's cat otherwise I don't know what I've had done, but I have to say also I would have to physically attack some unfeeling cruel swine who ever hurt our cat, how dare they! I hope the boy racer who left our sweetheart on the road without a care in the world, will experience the same pain when he/she loses their treasured animal that is part of his/her family.
Only just seen this thread, and want to say how sorry I am for your loss, 3SM. I know only too well how much it hurts.

To most people, a pet IS "someone they loved dearly".
It tends to be members of the Human Superiority Club who only think another human can possibly be worthy of grief or upset. Presumably because people speak english, or wear jeans or watch TV or something...
IMO, there is no reason why a bond with a pet can not equal or exceed that with another person.

Well said! I couldn't agree more. I was definitely more upset and devastated when I lost my precious Ragdoll cat Wuss, than I was when my beloved Dad died. To me, my cats are my life, and I miss the ones I've lost so very much.
Losing a precious cat who was more of an 'other half' to you than any person could ever be is certainly not a 'piece of piss' and people who think it is don't deserve the love that an animal can give you.
OP, I hope you're OK? It will get easier in time, but you never stop missing them.

my ossie was we always joked half human he would put his paw on your faceno claws tho if you were crying and at bedtime he would come and lie on me on his side and i had to kiss his head after this and some head butting he would retreat to the end of my bed he looked just like felix but very small he is being cremated today

i totally emphasise with you, the same thing happened with me and my cat 2 years ago, i was so angry i had to be stopped from smashing the drivers window! it will hurt like hell, but it will get easier and go away in time.

My sympathies, 3SM, but try not to be too condemnatory of the driver, it may well have been a pure accident. Unfortunately whilst most cats are roadwise, some are not.
I think you should get another cat as soon as possible. It will help take your mind off the present tragedy, and provide a much needed home.

Such as a 'cat scarer' or going out in the garden with a bit of lemon juice diluted in loads of water and spraying the cat and the ground. Leaving citrus fruit skins in the garden, putting down a bit of cat repellent...believe me I've tried it all as I absolutely adore cats to bits but this thread really isn't the time or place to discuss this at the moment! No, it's not actually, having experienced both. Losing my son to cancer as painful as that was, did not prepare me for the death of my beloved cat Timmy also from cancer. I felt the heartbreak both times, although maybe the pain of losing Timmy, didn't last as long as the pain of losing my son, it still catches me out sometimes, even 30 years later.
I feel for you OP, I really do. But let me just say, that as sad and heartbroken as you feel at the present, you will, one day, be able to move forward. It's probably not what you want to hear at the moment, if you're like I was, you just want to wallow. We, now, have our beautiful Penny (a tabby, like Timmy) the sweetest natured, gentlest cat ever and I love her to bits.

I'm so so sorry about the loss of your son, I couldn't imagine what you've gone through at all, if it were my son I don't think I'd be able to cope at all, but it isn't and wasn't and I can't come to terms with the fact...you are so brave and what you went through must be the most painful time in your memory...I hope you're finding peace and if I know cats as I do, then your Penny should bring you so much love, I'm so sorry about Timmy too, but now me and hubby were saying we could do with two positives to cancel out the negative and you have Timmy as your first posiitve and number two will come to you soon xx

I know I keep going on about boy racers...and girl racers too, but the thing is the road my cat got killed on was literally a rabbit run for these type of racers! Ask the police to do something? The force of their silence is deafening
