Poor quality on phone

I recently upgraded my internet subscription so that we can make free phone calls through the Orange Live Box. Its a normal phone connected via a plug adaptor to the phone socket on the box, and this works, but there is one problem.

from time to time, the audio quality goes very low - almost as if some thing is interfering with the phone. The plug adaptor has been replaced by Orange, and we have changed the phone over for one we know is ok (both phones are corded) and none of these things cures the problem.

the odd thing is that this interference or noise comes and goes. Kept an eye on yesterday, and it was fine all day. But this morning the interference noise is back.

I'd imagine it's most likely the internet connection at fault tbh. If you want to use VoIP in any serious manner I'd get a decent router for a start and then a better ISP.

Could be Orange are routing the calls by some really low quality providers at times. Could be a lot of jitter on the broadband connection at times or you could be saturating your bandwidth if downloading or uploading at the time of being in a call.
