Whoops. I made a thread at the same time as you but you already beat me to it by a minute. Apologies for that. To avoid split, I can alert the mods to merge both threads if possible.

“On my business card, I am a corporate president. In my mind, I am a game developer. But in my heart, I am a gamer.”

He always did come across as a likable guy who was not just a suit. A real shame, i did not know he had been ill so its a shock to me.

So bummed out right now. I have loved watching this man in Directs and trade shows over the years. I admire how he was mostly responsible for making Ninty super profitable, thanks to the Wii and DS. Just seemed like such a humble and personable guy, and there aren't many people in his position like that in this industry.

Rest in peace Iwata-San. Purveyor of joy.

He recently said “On my business card, I am a corporate president. In my mind, I am a game developer. But in my heart, I am a gamer.”

Whatever you think of Nintendo nowadays there is no denying the impact he had on the gamin world/community. A true visionary and will be sorely missed and fondly remembered.

RIP Iwata-San

My previous post seems to have disappeared mid-editing...

Nintendo Directs will never be the same

Genyo Takeda and Miyamoto will be stepping into the roles of president, presumably until a replacement is found (from the press release released by Nintendo.co.jp).

Tough day to be in the office - we're all very shocked and saddened to lose our president so suddenly. We all knew he had been ill - but there was no sign or information that his illness was so severe.

Mr Miyamoto has released the following statement:

"I am truly surprised and saddened by this unexpected news.

The entire development team at Nintendo will remain committed to our development policy which Mr. Iwata and we have been constructing together and to yield the development results which Mr. Iwata would appreciate."

Nintendo of Europe President, Satoru Shibata has released the following:

"Nintendo of Europe is today mourning the passing of Mr Satoru Iwata, Nintendo's Global President. It is difficult to put into words the sadness we feel at this time. Mr. Iwata was a strong leader, a unique figure in the gaming industry and an important part of Nintendo's history.

He was a visionary in every sense of the word and we will miss him dearly. Just as Mr. Iwata challenged us to always push forward, we will ensure his legacy lives on through our ongoing work to always surprise and delight our fans. At this time our thoughts are with his family."

Condolences to you all, and to Fay in particular if you know her. Tell her "Temple" says hi and I hope she's OK.

Sorry for your loss- from what I'd read, he was one of that rare breed of corporate heads who actually did care about his employees.

Sad news The Game Boy and SNES were my introduction to the world of gaming. I was just browsing through the #RIPIwata hashtag on Twitter (it's trending at the moment) and I was tearing up at some of the pics people made
