USB 1.1 and 2.0

Hi, I'm buying a second hand laptop which may only have USB 1.1 ports on it, and I'm intending to use a Hauppauge Digital TV Receiver stick with it which is using USB 2.0.

Will it work? Thanks

If it's compatible with USB 1.1 as well as 2.0 then yes it will work.

If not, no!

Technically USB1.1 and 2.0 are compatible with each other. A bottleneck may arise if the TV stick requires a higher transfer rate than the 12 Mbits/s 1.1 provides.

I recently bought a hauppauge digital tv stick and the advert specifically stated that it WOULD NOT work with USB 1.1.

In fact, the specification for all the USB sticks on the Hauppauge website say they will not work with USB 1.1: http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/site/products/prods.html

A digital TV stick streaming video is likely going to need USB2 to work.

You're quite right, it does need USB 2

Will defo need USB 2.0 to transfer the data it will be transferring, USB 1.1 not nearly fast enough at what 12 mb/s? I'd say a tv stick would use closer to the 480mb/s to be honest.
