HI my tv will accept 1080p but its only a 1366 by 768 res, my question is should I set my BD dvd player to 1080p or 720p which would be best for my res. thanks in advance.
jono.
Virtually all Blu-rays are 1080p so send that to the TV and it will scale down to 1366*768, if you sent 720p then the TV would scale up from 720p, two scaling operations which makes more opportunities for PQ issues.
If your TV accepts and processes 1080p/24 then that's even better
Worth noting that if you are using the same player for DVD then you may find that what works best for Blu-ray isn't the best for DVD however I would lean towards sending 1080p again to minimise scaling operations.

Setting it to 720 the player will scale it down the the TV will then have to scale it back up to 768.
There's no right or wrong way, try both settings and select the one that looks the best to you.”
Some TVs (recent Pannies for one) always upscale to 1080 anyway to do the signal processing and then for those non 1080 line displays downscale to the native resolution. For TVs like those it obviously makes sense to use 1080p rather than 720p.
As you say though trying both makes the most sense.
Thanks all for your help, have tried both settings and find 720p to be the sharper of the two,I think at 720p the tv must do less scaling than it would do at 1080p, as the native res is 1366 by 768.
