Cant remember whether it was 73 or 74

There's a nice piece with a sample here which is worth a ten second browse (and the site is quite funny too)

and yes, Westlife were the most recent culprits

Hit me with your rhythm stick - Ian Dury and The Blockheads.

I was young, I was foolish, I had a big pound note burning a hole in my lionels.

Don't be ashamed of that mate- total class song

Mine was 'The Celtic Soul Brothers' by Dexys MR- a little ironic as I've just ordered their fab new single off Amazon

Phew..ok, showing my age.

The VERY first single I ever brought was 'She loves you' The Beatles in 1963. I saved up my pocket money for weeks, and played the thing to death .

i think it must have been the 1982 scotland world cup song *we have a dream*. i was very young, and it did come with a sheet with the sqaud's autographs.

and it featured john gordon sinclair. it was a classic and no mistake!

First single I ever bought with my own "pocket money" was Adam Ant - Kings Of The Wild Frontier.

Seems to be alot of 30+ people who bought Adam Ant as their first single! lol
