Hi All

I have a slight issue, ive just moved into a brand new build, that according to the landlord & Architech has been wired into BT absolutely fine.

I have rang BT today to ask if i could have the line activated and was told an engineer would only be able to come in 16 days time, is this usual? is there anything i can do to have it done more urgently.

Many thanks

Rob

It's usual for builders to arrange to have the internal wiring of extension sockets done by their electricians.

In the hope of connections being requested, BT will usually invest in wiring from the nearest street terminal box to the master socket in each new dwelling - but not connect fully back to the exchange or activate the line.

The fist person to ask for a connection is then charged the standard £124.99 regardless of the amount already spent on the external wiring or how much extra the connections to and at the exchange cost.

16 days is pretty good lead time IMHO.

I moved into a new build this weekend. The flat had previous occupants but there is no dial tone on the BT line. I assume this means it was never re-connected. The previous tenants only lived there for 6 months.

I think I'm going to have to pay the £125 installation charge, which is annoying but necessary since there is no alternatives for phone and broadband (in terms of ADSL versus cable).

If you'll be staying a while, £29.99 installation should be available to you:
