Tiscali Ceasing Broadband & TV Service

I have been a Tiscali Broadband and TV customer since May 2007. Unfortunately not allowed Sky in my building so reluctantly had to get Tiscali back then but was pleased with the service. That was until the nightmare migration began earlier this year. As had signed up to Tiscali and not HomeChoice news of migration was unexpected and as many have posted on here, a bit of a nightmare. Countless phone calls to Tiscali, several confusing letters and two visits later we thought everything was sorted out but when migrated we weren’t on the package we originally on, we had been downgraded and so were and still are without channels such as Sci Fi, Hallmark and the VOD channel C6 etc.
So some more phone call later this letter (extract below) arrived:

We have now migrated almost all our TV customers onto the new Tiscali TV platform. As part of this work we encountered some technical incompatibilities with a very small number of customers. Unfortunately, your service is one of those affected. These incompatibilities are outside of our control and regrettably we must cease your Tiscali TV and broadband at midnight 16th October 2008.

I can’t believe the shocking way Tiscali have treated us and am appalled that basically after all this time are being told to shove off.

Posting this on here to see if anyone else has had the same letter or is it really “a very small number” affected as Tiscali say. Also, can they get away with this? Imagine the uproar if it was the likes of Virgin or Sky telling people this?!

Thanks.

You're not in West London are you? I was told I would be one of those affected and would be losing my service, but after having a hissy fit on here, the Tiscali member of staff (who, unfortunately has left but has been replaced) managed to sort it out it seems.

I also think its utterly appalling. I can't have a sky dish where I live.. Once I looked into it, we can have Virgin.. But annoyingly it does mean signing a one year contract with them - which we desperately wanted to avoid as we plan to move in a few months to somewhere we will be able to have Sky.

I investigated Virgin for a friend in W9 - their website said "Yes" to the full postcode I entered, but when I tried to order the service they said "No, we're not connected there".

I'm W12. We used NTL before moving to Homechoice a few years ago now (when Home choice were really quite new still) and Virgin claimed on the phone they could use the NTL cables we still have..
If it wasn't for the 12 month contract we would have moved.. I can't wait to move and get Sky!

Yeah, in west London.

Spoke to Tiscali and they said it might be a mistake so to write to their customer services department.

After months of getting messed around by Tiscali I've just gotten fed up with them and have switched to a new broadband supplier and bought a PVR. I'll miss some of the channels and on-demand services but none of these have worked properly since April and not at all since I was finally migrated in August despite calling Tiscali about it twice.

I'll no doubt get calls from Tiscali pretty soon asking why I cancelled my account. What else can I expect from a company that has shown itself to be so utterly incompetent.
