Needing to connect PS3 to Philips LCD via DVI which leaves me needing to find sound. Can i use this(above) to connect optical cable from the PS3s optical out to the LCDs S/PDIF socket?

Hi Scoot,

You will find that the optical out on the LCD is suprisingly an output he he!

You will need to use the AV cable that came with your ps3 and use the RED and WHITE phono plugs to plug into the Philips LCD Aux input on the side. When the dvi input is selected and the PS3 is set to output analogue sound via the Phono leads then the LCD will route the audio from the Aux input to the DVI input.

You wont gain anything using an optical lead anyway as the LCD will only produce stereo sound via moderate speakers.

So the S/PDIF socket on the TV is an output and not an input?? Bugger. Was hoping to do it this way as the Wii is currently plugged into the red/yellow/white. Its my sons TV so was to save him having to continually change the plugs over. The PS3s been in the living room since he got it as our TV there has an HDMI and the older LCD he has doesnt, just the DVI. But as you can all imagine, its causing ructions in our house when he's wanting on the PS3 wi his mates and me and the wife are wanting peace.

The set should have a 3.5 mm socket next to the dvi socket. This is the audio input for the dvi connection. You will need an adapter to convert the red/white rca plugs to a 3.5mm plug.

Just found the DVI audio socket. Been a while since Ive looked at his TV so forgot all about that. I take it the cable i posted above wont fit in there?

No. it will be the same size as a normal headphone jack. Maplins or somewhere should have something to adapt the lead you already have.

The optical cable i posted has a 3.5mm adaptor with it. still no good?

No. The optical adapter just changes the shape of the optical connection. A 3.5mm plug->stereo rca socket adapter is what you need to do the job.
