Did anyone see him saying that on "Celebrity Juice" last night?

Check it out for yourself, its about 3 minutes in to the clip:

I have to say, I find the sob story's really annoying too.

I think it's mean of Dermot to say he doesn't care about the contestants' dreams or about their dead relatives. I'm sure he must have had dreams of being in the TV business before he started out.

I don't see a problem with the contestants who talk about their dream. Everyone aims to be somewhere and if their dream is to have a recording contract and be a massive succesful artist then I don't see the problem. That is after all why they should be there!

Well I understand and respect that people have dreams. I love contestants that audition with a big dream and have tried their best for ages to get somewhere or maybe have auditioned before but didn't get that far but then auditioned again and is better the next year. And put alot of effort in their audition and the live shows etc and go on to win the X Factor.

Sob Stories to me have there limit. But if it keeps getting mentioned all the time I get sick of it.

I like voice and personality, sob stories I don't care about really!

Okay I sound like a judge now hahaha

Then why the hell does Simon allow them on HIS BLOODY SHOW??????

It's his show. Why do people forget this very simple fact?

Ratings! He knows it works better than people having no back story and he knows that all his shows are using this technique and they are all doing better than ever. There is alot of bad news just now, hearing some uplifting life stories sounds like a good idea. (even if I can't be bothered anymore!)

Oh, I agree. But I'm sick of people believing Simon's bull about hating the sob stories, and his pretense of having nothing to do with it.

Simon pretends about a lot of things. He knows exactly how the phone voting is going throughout the live shows. But obviously he doesn't say.

I saw a video of him telling Leona that she had topped the phone votes for that particular night. Also, at the end of the X Factor final 2007 before Leon was announced winner, Simon's speech made it a bit obvious.

But I still enjoy the show.

im sick of these people milking their personal tragedys to advance their career.

funny thing is people like Leon who had dignity and never mentioned his dad had died usually win through.good.

We don't know what he actually thinks of them. For all we know he may well hate them and find them annoying and boring or he might cry when he hears of their sad tales (for some reason I don't think the second option is the right one!). But he knows that it works and so he lets the producers fill the show up with them and plays along when necessary.

The voiceover man says so but it doesn't show Simon telling Leona anything. Great backstage video though.

How many of you actually watched the video? Honestly maybe i'm reading it wrong but not for a second do I believe he was being serious. (He may well feel that but still don't think he was being serious).

I have a feeling that if he did, he wouldn't make it to the end of the show!

If they don't like the sob stories then why do they prompt them for one? Dermot does it wandering around outside looking for them! He wouldn't be needed at the auditions at all and all he'd be left to do would be to open the door, which I'm sure, sob story or not, the contestants can do for themselves. ..

The judges also 'prompt' them for one when they go in front of them. So I don't buy their dislike of it and agree with the poster who says it's for ratings. Who doesn't like to see someone make good. I think the show would be flat without it.

I don't think they should sway a judges yes/no vote tho and I think it does. Has anyone with a sob story ever been told no at the audition stage? Maybe they have and I've missed it.

the sob stories are the one thing i hate about the show. I can't just about handle them at the auditions but they should then be completely ignored for every round afterwards.

i always record xfactor auditions so that i can ff thru the emotional rubbish. this statement that dermot made is out of context.

Ethereal, not sure about anything to do with Leona or that series, but in the behind the scenes documentary for Shaynes series Simon's definitely shown being given phone voting updates during the final, and speaking to Shayne/Andy about it. Might be worth checking out, obviously he is aware of voting, he's the exec producer.

Oh I've never seen those. I knew he'd get the votes as he's executive producer but didn't think he'd be allowed to tell the contestants.

I remember that programme, it kept changing after each song if I remember ..and all the judges knew and told their acts

Well if people didn't say their dreams he would only be a voice over during the auditions because what else can you ask people about that people care about.

However, it was a funny comment.

Everyone has a dream of being famous - & why not?

But the minute the 'sentimental' music starts during the auditions I know there's going to be a 'sob' story - getting a bit cynical about it now!

However what I am sick of is the 'live' acts who bring up their 'sob' stories week after week - it's a bit obvious nowadays that it' s to get votes.

Leave it out Producers - lets judge the singers on their merits please.
