The voiceover man says so but it doesn't show Simon telling Leona anything. Great backstage video though. ”

Oh, yeh I got that wrong.

I thought I heard Simon saying she topped the polls, but obviously was the voiceover man. Thanks for reminding me.

But I swear I've seen a video of Simon telling a contestant how they're doing in the polls- or maybe that's my imagination!?

Always had a feeling Dermot didn't like that kind of stuff. He said something about less people getting in on the back of their story this year at the press launch - although I don't care what anybody says, that is the only reason the man whose wife had passed away got through. He had an average voice.

I acknowledge that some of these wannabes have some mishaps along the way in their lives or before they turn up in front of the judges, but this shouldn't really be used time and time again as an excuse to choose someone to go through to the final stages over someone who has had a better upbringing, background and lifestyle, as well as having the good voice. I just don't know why since Will Young's win (although I hated him at the time and still do) that TV execs keeping wanting to help magazines like Heat or OK by using an engineered "rags to riches" storyline. This is probably what Dermot meant.

I think Dermot was having a bit of a laugh on that show, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if he's as sick of the sob stories as the rest of us!

Bring on the singing!!!!

I like the bit that says he has angered the shows producers with his comments on Celebrity Juice.

The X factor and Celebrity Juice are made by the same production company - Talkback Thames - Surely if they were going to seriously be annoyed by his comments they would have just edited them out of the show.

Can anybody say "publicity seeking to get back ratings from Strictly come dancing"? lol

I seriously doubt he's furious with Dermot. Did he not go on about how stupid the sob stories are himself(regardless of the fact it is his show)?

Just a way to generate some interest in Dermot IMO. He hardly ever gets a look in the publicity.

I think he was having a laugh!

I don't believe anything that is written about x factor in the news now - one min Cheryl is being kicked off show for crying all the time, the next it's Danni cos she jealous of Cheryl.

It all a pantomime!

I do think that contestants should be banned from talking about their pasts. However I think it was disgusting for Dermot to say it they way he did.

It kind of makes him two-faced. He makes out he cares by listening to them and hugging them and then says this

But I also can't help but think that the producers make them tell their story so the viewers know something about them by the time the final comes.
It also spoils it though as it means all the contestants that you saw tell their story have a place in the final

There's nothing wrong with having a dream, but it winds me up when contestants act like the X Factor is the only way they can realise that dream - particularly the younger ones. If they want it that bad, then they have to persevere - keep singing, book gigs, record stuff, get seen by the right people. The X Factor is not the only way to become a star - in fact it's not a surefire way at all!

thing is, not having a sob story doesnt work in your favour either, really

rhydian didnt have one. and then a big deal was made about him not having one, which had similar effects to a sob story

but dermot did make me laugh

just saying what everyone thinks

i hope he doesnt get into too much trouble about it

and i dont think he'll win himself any fans from it really. contestants who do have sob stories are gonna be a bit narked
