Sarah has been cast as the cover to Nancy in Cameron Mackintosh's production of Oliver! after narrowly missing out on the role on I'd Do Anything BBC1's search for Nancy.

Makes a nonsense of the show if true . Not in the sense that she isn't capable - I thought she ought to have the main job if you judged on ability to act and sing consistently well and if you didn't rely on Jessie learning fast how to act. It makes a nonsense though of the way she went out (missed by a considerable distance rather than narrowly ) and the unsupportable excuses found for choosing her to go. Obviously claims that she's too short or not tough enough or even that she's not consistent enough were as untrue then as they seem accepted to be now.

Not the first time this has happened though - you only have to look at Tara and some of the other Nancies or any of the other Maria's who have done leading roles or Aoife who actually was packing them in in the SOM. None of them seem to have had in real life the problems the panel claimed for them on their shows.

Welldone Sarah anyway if and when its confirmed.

I met Sarah last night and it's deffo been confirmed that's why it's up on that website plus her appreciation group on Facebook now.

Yeaaaah! She confirmed it too me last night!
She said that she couldn't play Nancy for 3 or so months because off BBC contracting but will be in the chorus, 'why will buy' for definate!
It's exciting times for The Lark!

Yay for The Lark! Watching her sing As Long As He Needs Me last night at Hits puts no doubt in my mind that when she gets the chance to play Nancy she'll be absolutely outstanding! Congratulations Sarah! Im so excited for her!

That's fantastic if true, but really makes a mockery of all the judges comments.

BTW is COVER the same as UNDERSTUDY? I know this is different from ALTERNATE. Will Sarah play Nancy in the event that Jodie can't for holidays or illness?

Cover is the same as Understudy, so Sarah will be an Understudy. I'm assuming she's First Cover (all principle performers have two understudies). Assuming that she is First Cover, she'll play Nancy if Jodie (or Alternate) is ill, but I would expect the Alternate to play Nancy during Jodie's holidays.

She doesn't really know herself whats happening!
It only got confirmed yesterday!
But in theory she can't play Nancy till April! Because of BBC contracting, and because Jodie was voted for and Sarah wasn't, it wouldn't be fair to the voters!

I think Sarah wil be the first cover from the opening! She's gona be in the ensemble and cover illnesses and whatnot! She spoke about the alternate Nancy not being able to be another IDA Nancy for 3 months but I duno if that means she'll be the alternate after that or not.

& yay for The Lark (again)!

There was an alternate Maria - Aoife played Maria at two performances every week - but there has never been an alternate Joseph. Lee has played/is playing Joseph at all eight performances every week apart from holidays/illness which were initially covered by Lewis but are now covered by the understudy listed in the programme (Ricky Rojas).

It is not yet clear whether an alternate Nancy will be needed. The See Tickets site for Oliver says:

"Sickness and holiday permitting, we have decided that Jodie Prenger is scheduled to perform on Monday and Tuesday evenings, Wednesday matinees, Friday evenings and both shows Saturday. Until the show opens in December we cannot make a final decision on any additional performances."

So Jodie is currently scheduled to do six performances and it will be decided later whether she can do the other two performances or if an alternate should be brought in.

Corrr' Sarahs 'As long as he needs me' was mindblowingly, hairs on the back of your neck standing up good! She is incredibly talented!
I'll be cheering on Thee Lark, whatever role shes playing next!

I went and saw Oliver last night. I did not have Jodie as Nancy I had Australian Tamsin Caroll, but Sarah was in it as the Strawberry seller.
