PC to TV streaming.
I'm toying with the idea of connecting my PC to my TV to watch BBC/C4 tv on demand via the TV set.
Has anyone any info on this product http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?...23833#features Such as quality or any other easier idea's to acheive what I'm trying to do ?. |

Depends on your TV and PC. If your TV has an HDMI input, and your PC has a DVI output, use a DVI - HDMI cable - much better quality than VGA - S-Video.
S-Video will be OK for watching films or TV programmes, but it'll be pretty poor for browsing or other PC uses. |

Or plain old VGA to VGA is also good. On a par with HDMI and DVI.
On my old Samsung LE40, VGA was actually better than DVI-HDMI. On my new Panasonic '81B, DVI-HDMI is much better. For some reason, the Panny's VGA input is limited to PC-standard 4:3 resolutions, while the HDMI input will accept the 1920x1080i output from my Mac Mini perfectly. |

I've only ever connect PC's via VGA to a Sony, Samsung and a Goodmans and they all worked perfectly.

When I was looking to buy a new 46" telly (3 weeks ago), I could only find 2 that would accept 1920x1080 via VGA - the series 6 Samsung and the X-series Sony.
Maybe the manufacturers have got the HDMI inputs sorted now, so they don't feel the need to fit high-res VGA inputs? Certainly the HDMI input on my Panny works perfectly with my Mac. I'd assumed that I'd need to use a fancy resolution switcher program (as with the Samsung), but it's pixel-perfect straight from the box. |

All the sets I've ever connected PC's to have only been HD ready, not full HD, so I've never tried putting a resolution that high through VGA. |

Ah right .... that may explain why I've never hit any problems.
All the sets I've ever connected PC's to have only been HD ready, not full HD, so I've never tried putting a resolution that high through VGA. Using a VGA lead instead provided instant pixel perfect pictures, with no settings required - it 'plugged and played' no hassle at all. |

I tried various Sony and Sharp models, and various resolution settings on the computer - I could find no settings (or sets) that I found acceptable via HDMI.
