Getting surround sound with a GameCube using the Sony DAV-DZ260...
Is it possible? All I can get at the moment is simulated surround. I want to play Resident Evil 4 in true DPLII!
Any help is appreciated. |

How have you got it connected at the moment? If you have a stereo feed to it then just select DPLII processing on the appropriate input.

"True DPLII" - I take it you know this is Dolby ProLogic which is a surround signal encoded in to the stereo soundtrack rather than Dolby Digital discrete 5.1 surround as you'd get from a DD encoded DVD, right?
I'm not in to games or games consoles so you'll need to do some checking yourself, but as long as the game has a pro-logic encoded soundtrack and the console is connected correctly via your TV which passes the stereo signal out to the DAV-DZ260 then you should be able to select DPLII. I've got the GameCube connected to the tv with a SCART cable, and the surround system is connected to the tv via a HDMI cable and audio cable.

You need to get a gamecube cable like this. Then get a cable like this.
Connect the red\white phono's (don't worry about yellow thats video) of the gamecube to the auio input jack on the front of your sony amp. Select AUDIO and apply DPL processing. Just a note that the Sony DZ260, is not really designed for connecting external components. It has very few inputs and no video pass thru. In my opinion, it could have been a good system but has been crippled by sony at the design stage. Many people on this forum seem to have similar problems to yours about connecting other devices to it. EDIT: Just reread your last post, presumably the audio cable you talk about is an optical cable between the tv and amp? What tv do you have? Does it pass the audio associated with the picture back out thru the optical? |
