Desperate mum-of-five Rachel Hylton shouted at Simon Cowell when he mocked her singing of Chasing Cars.

Cowell, 48, told her: “That performance will not work. It’s fine you slowed the piano down but you started to ruin that song.”

Former drug addict Rachel, 26, replied: “It’s so easy for you to sit there. For everyone who stands up here I have to defend our position. I have practised and practised and I know this song.

Cowell hit back: “I don’t need you telling me what I should or shouldn’t be saying. You are beginning to ruin it for yourself. Stand up for yourself but don’t play the victim.

“I understand the pressure you’re under so don’t use that as an excuse. You cocked up the arrangements and I don’t want to see you do it again.

“You have to listen as we are trying to help you.”

Having a more straightforward audition, Laura White wowed judges with her performance of The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, originally by Roberta Flack. Cowell desc-ribed her as “the one to beat”.

And band JLS impress Louis Walsh with their version of Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.

Walsh said: “You sound like one of the early Motown groups.”

Rachel doing a great job of getting people to endear to her I see. She needs to lose the attitude if she wants to get public support.

Let's be realistic, if she did win she has to be managed. If she can't handle the 'management' now there would be little hope later down the line.
