Just 5 weeks ago, i bought the latest BuRay player from Samsung from Comet. Switched it on today, and its given up. No picture..No Sound..No Responce whatsoever when i push any buttons, the the help guide is'nt that helpfull either. Anyway, its the "Samsung-BD-P1500" Anyone had any problems with that model at all? |

Your only option is to return it. They'll probably send it away for repair, resign yourself to a wait for it's return. I think if it's more than 28 days, they won't replace it. All HD players are prone to problems, maybe Samsung slightly more than most.

It would be a poor retailer who wants you to wait for a repair when its 5 weeks old. As for HD players being prone to problems - rubbish. I have a PS3 and a Toshiba HD DVD player and neither model is known to be faulty . In fact the only HD players I've heard of with faults are Samsung. Despite their image improvement over the last few years ,to me Samsung are still the bargain basement brand they were in the 80's and I would not touch their stuff with a bargepole. Reportedly their HD tv's are pretty good though. |

Their HDTVs are unreliable too BTW. As a retailer, I can assure you the tosh HD DVDs were prone to trouble. I have one which has been hassle free, I've sent about 10% of my sales back under warranty. That's high. I won't sell Samsung....

If you are a retailer then you should be more objective and useful rather than post your blatant anti Bluray views all over the forum HD DVD lost unfortunately and for those who want HD movies Bluray is it. Why not offer useful info on the best players rather than write the format off when its clearly here to stay |

I also have Toshiba A1 & Toshiba EP10 HD DVD'S both of which have performed flawlessly. You need to consider the volume sold in your calculations to come up with "Real" percentage returns. |

Update:
I took the player back to Comet who have sent it away for repairs. They think its a firmware problem. When i start it up, it read "load" and stayed like that. When i put a disc in, it just read "closed" - the assistant said the following (to my amazement) "It's almost like it's confused" I trust the brand Samsung though, iv'e always went for Samsung. Because it's not the top brand, you don;t pay so much - but the technology is more or less the same as Sony anyways

I noticed a few comments about Samsung.
Last year I bought a Samsung DVD Recorder from a catalogue online, and it packed up after 2 weeks. The picture kept freezzin and was appalling!!! Luckily, I foned the company and they asked me to send it back which I did. Then I ordered a replacement a Panasonic DVD Recorder and its been working fine!! Samsung are suspect I think, so I avoid them anyway. Maybe its best that you should too! |

You can tell you don't sell Samsung or you would be more clued up! The Samsung BD P1400 was the Best selling BD player (Next to the PS3) & has the lowest number of returns according to trade sources. And the BD P1500 appears to be following in it's footsteps. I have a BD P1400 which I have had for 9 months, in that time I have viewed over 90 BD discs without a single hitch, all viewed perfectly on my 15 month old Samsung LE40M86BDX 1080P screen, which can still outperform almost all LCD panels out there!
I also have Toshiba A1 & Toshiba EP10 HD DVD'S both of which have performed flawlessly. You need to consider the volume sold in your calculations to come up with "Real" percentage returns. My point is you get good and bad from all Manufactures and you just have to stick with it till you get a good un. |
