I remember a few weeks ago somebody mentioning that upon the release of the Big Brother 3 Uncut DVD and video, it went straight to the top end of the charts and stayed there for weeks to come.

Fast forward a year later and Big Brother 4 Uncut DVD and video are released.

For the past month i have been badgering my local HMV to get it in because they have said up until now that it isnt even on their system, well today i went in and attempted to order it again.

As soon as i said it the girl says "Thats very hard to get , weve been trying for months to get it in", i thought to myself, "hmm, a new release and it cant be gotten, this is mad", but she proceeded to tell me that its now down to a budget price of 7.99 euro and that they would try their best to get it in.

Now i could have told her that id got get it on Amazon, but to think that this, a brand new DVD is already unavailable is unreal, they obviously just pressed one batch of it, and when it didnt sell, they said forget about it.

As I've argued before, there's nothing like karma....

Now, if they'd have the sense to release a "Best of Jon Tickle" DVD....

Even worse because the BB3 itself was very poor-my video tape was only 1.5 hours long and had a ridiculous voiceover on it.
It was no good for fans or people new to it.

If you want to watch BB4 just switch off your TV and watch the screen for nine weeks. You will then have experienced the entire show with no cuts at all.

The Big Brother 3 DVD is showing at £19.99 on the HMV website but it's only £2.99 in the sale in my local store. The BB4 DVD is also in stock on the website, again at £19.99. But not for long I suspect

You know I'd be happy if I thought this was going to teach Endemol a lesson, but I doubt it will

I've got this horrible feeling BB5 is going to suck as well and that'll be the end of it.

I get the sneaking suspicion that BB5 will have a bizarre mix of characters in an attempt to make something different and interesting, but will it succeed, i dont think so.

They are going to put the reward room in again, which i found to be the most boring part of BB4, it just held no interest for me at all.

Its going to be fascinating to see the show to see how they follow up, although talk to me in july 2004 and i may disagree.

One of the most shocking things on BB4, was when on BBLB they dragged on of the "producers" on set to talk about the show,
anyone remember the Africa swap BBLB episode where they featured a pre pubescent blonde female who was apparently one of the big cheeses of the show, talk about a ditzy, clueless young fool. You ahve to remember, these people are running the show, they are inexperiecned and havent a clue half of them, but hey, it keeps Endemols costs down.

Hold on, aren't we being a bit unfair here? Yes BB4 was not as good as BB3 but BB2 was just as bad! There's a pattern emerging here.......there is hope for BB5 after all! Not wishing to start repeat another thread but there are lessons to be learned and a few ideas from BB America should be introduced, especially the power of veto!

Nope...BB4 was much worse than BB2...At least in 2 the producers didn't rig it for the TV presenters brother to win......

I haven't thought about BB for ages, anyway i brought the DVD and it was awful, boring and a complete waste of money.
How can anyone say that BB 3 was no better, WHAT BB 3 was classic tv.

For me, BB1 is the tops because of the raw freshness of the concept. BB2 was good, but the show has been going steadily downhill since its first series.

...and yet BB3 was the most popular and most successful. BB4 must have been an anomaly.
One out of four BB's being crap isn't a bad average.

I think they should try the equivalent of the American Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches diet for a week............................thickly spread Marmite sandwiches.

Successful - finanically or artistically???

BB3 was utter crap - what was once intriguing high concept TV had unequivocally degenerated into cash cow fodder for the zombie-brained proles, and BB4 only became worthless tosh when it started introducing the gimmicks in an effort to pander to their low attention span key demographic.

well ben....i guess if teenBB is anything to go by, no doubt they've decided with BB5 that appealing to the lowest common denominator is now the way to go...

I have the feeling that BB5 is really going to stink.

BB3 was successful both financially, that was obvious and as a light entertainment show and provided a whole year of fun for a lot of people on this forum.

If Channel 4 were unlucky enough to select a group of HM's that didn't gel into an entity that can entertain us, then the viewing audience, whatever their level of intellect happened to be, would expect the producers to use tricks or gimmicks, as you call them, to kickstart some action.
Your gimmicks were the only weapons they had or have, to drag anything out of the BB4 HM's.

Wrong. BB4 was just fine up until the start of the gimmicks. The series was sold on the basis of "back to basics", a return to the original concept laid out with BB1. Unfortunately, the purity of form in BB4 - the subtle interactions that rose to the surface as the group weren't signposted well enough for Mr. and Mrs. Pleb sitting at home.

BB1 was a non-mainstream "cult" that exploded into a phenomenon thanks to the antics of Nick. BB4 weeks 1-4 was what BB1 would've been like without Nick present - quietly absorbing.

I really resent that. And I think that if you look at the generality of posters here who absolutely adore BB3 they're very far from being zombies.

That's unfortunate. However, BB3 was nothing but tacky, contrived, vacuous, self-consciously lowbrow fodder and a completely dumbed down degeneration of the concepts showcased in BB1. Frankly, it was appalling.
