'Delicacies' and 'posh' nosh
Victoria Sponge

I have to say, I am not really a fan of posh nosh. I hate champagne and smoked salmon, was totally underwhelmed by lobster Thermidor, and things like caviar, foie gras, oysters and truffles just don't appeal to me (not that I can afford them anyway, so it's just as well!).

Which posh and expensive food items have you sampled in your culinary journeys? Which ones do you like/dislike? Are they worth the money?

I've eaten foie gras it was worth every penny imo. same with truffles
I've also tried caviar, the "red" cheapo and the black beluga and found it disgusting.
I love champagne but am a wine philistine and am as happy with a nice prosecco as a bottle of the vintage stuff. not keen on pink champagne either. I prefer sirloin to fillet steak too as I find fillet a bit tasteless in comparison. I don't like oysters but love mussels too. I love lobster tails but like you was underwhelmed with thermidor. Sometimes only a dirty McD's burger will fill the gap no matter what delights are on offer.

I've stopped ordering steak in restaurants because the never seem to get them right. You seem to pay more for the sauce which can also be hit and miss.

So I would add to the Fillet Steak tally.

I have only tasted truffle once in a Gordon Ramsay restaurant and it didn't do anything for me at all. Thought it was tasteless

I love Champagne and it's all I drink over the Christmas and New Year period. I adore oysters as well. Foie gras I find a bit rich and smoked salmon is nice in scrambled eggs. Fillet steak has no flavour so I prefer rump or ribeye. I prefer crab to lobster and haddock to halibut. You can shove caviar where the sun don't shine. I don't recall trying truffle.

Foie Gras is amazing stuff, eat it as often as I can. Fillet of Beef cooked well is also amazing, as is Lobster and I love Quail and Pigeon as well.

I would hardly call pigeon a delicacy though
I get mine from a local farmer for £1.50 a brace.

Perhaps not, but it's something a lot of people haven't tried.

I find foie gras too rich, truffles OK in very small doses and caviare horrid.
Had sharks' fin soup (and bird's nest soup) a long time ago when it was considered fine to eat endangered species - and did not like them.
Love any sort of seafood - so lobster etc is fine

As for champagne, can't get enought of it, as good, really good wine.

Some species of fish are rapidly becoming a delicacy now, due to the prices being charged - I noticed Monkfish fillets are £26 a kg in Waitrose now.

I'm not a massive fan of fois gras, but I don't like pate generally to be fair. I do like Oysters, but I actually prefer well sourced and cooked mussels.

Not mega expensive but

-Fresh scallops at £1 a pop, nice but nothing particularly special.

-Organic Salt Marsh Lamb - something like double the price of normal lamb but definitely worth it

I love oysters but can only eat then fried (great in chilli and peanut sauce!). Lobster is one of my favouirite foods (with butter, cream, garlic and parmesan)

Truffles? Meh.

Caviar is vile.
