BBC iPlayer on iPod Touch

I'm having problems using the BBC iPlayer service on my iPod Touch.

When I select a video to watch from iPlayer I get a white box that appears with index.html at the top. There are two buttons within the box one says download and the other says play in media player.

Underneath is some text saying 'Click download to location /var/mobile/Library/Downloads folder. Warning : If this file exists already in the downloads folder, it will be overwritten.'

If I select download I guess the file gets downloaded onto the Touch as I get a counter showing the number of bytes.

If I select play in media player I get a message saying 'This movie format is not supported'. I think iPlayer movies are in either wmv or mp4 format and I guess it is trying to play the wmv format version.

I've had iPlayer working before. I think it may be due to a jailbreak application conflicting with downloads within Safari, though I've removed any that have anything to do with file handling such as document viewers and still get the problem.

Can anyone help?

I've sorted this.

I'd installed an Safari add-on called 'Safari Download Plug-in'. This caused everything to be downloaded rather than streamed.

Where do you download that from?

you have to jailbreak your ipod before you can install the add-on

even then you can only jailbreak the 1st generation iPod touches as the new one have yet to be hacked.

all I did was to go to google type in iplayer and search, click on the top link, once page loaded bookmark this to your home page on your iPod, now just press on tv choose the channel and day then press on the program you want to watch, wait for about 5-10 seconds for the QuickTime logo to appear and a play icon, press on the play button and wait for the program to start in QuickTime, can take a while to start but works perfectly for me. Hope this helps.

I'm using a 2G iPod touch with no hacking involved.
