What name did Simon write on that piece of note paper!!
Holly was handed a piece of paper (XTRA FACTOR) and on it Simon Cowell wrote who he predicts the winner to be. He asked Holly not to open it until 3 months time after the winner is announced to see whether he was right!
Any guesses what the name of that piece of paper might be? |

It definitely isn't Diana, cos he siad on Xtra Factor afterwards he'd have to write another, as apparently Diana came out from absolutely nowhere

I was thinking Rachel.
Hopefully Holly won't forget - I'm dying to know.

I'd love to know who he put down and I thought it was interesting how he changed his mind later.
Also, I thought it was interesting that in Leona's year, he actually thought Ashley was the one to beat and if I remember correctly, he was the first 16-24 to be eliminated from the live shows. |

Simon was defnitely pushing Ashley to the forefront , moreso than Leona. Ashley got too cocky for Simon's liking IMO. |

I think he wrote Rachel down as she seems to be the one he is raving about!

I'd say either Austin or Laura. They were the two standouts at bootcamp.
But as its been pointed out, it's funny how quickly the front runners can change once we get to the live shows. |

Maybe Rachel as he was disappointed with her attitude after her first boot camp audition, which might have reminded him of Ashley. I'd say Rachel's singing's much better than Ashley's anyway, and that she's still a front runner - along with the likes of Austin and Laura.
Simon might not have written anything signifcant down at all - you know what these staged TV moments are like. It might say "Simon Philip Cowell" or a random name he pulled from nowhere when put on the spot - maybe even "Holly Willoughby" or something he could get a gimmick out of at a later date. Holly won't forget as it's all on camera and she can easily be reminded, but the producers/Simon may drop the story so that we never find out what he wrote down. That would be very frustrating though!

In series three I always thought Nikitta was the one to beat before the live shows. Then she got screwed over by Simon and she was a goner :\

Yeah she was. It annoyed me how on "Love" week, Simon gave her last bloody dance! She could have brought the house down that week :\\\

Simon admitted it on The Xtra Factor last night.
I don't think Leona was even a contender in my mind until the live shows. She completely blew everyone away with Summertime and that changed everything. I agree that was the first time she stood out for me, I had her down as a better than average voice and a pretty face. I could nt remember the song but knew it was from Porgy and Bess , this was my first goosepimple moment from last series. |

Ashley got too cocky for Simon's liking IMO. I think it paid for them to be selective in how they portrayed her, given previous experience of the voting patterns on reality shows in the UK which have never favoured "young, pretty girls with talent". The underdog tag suited her at that stage and he still kept trying to play it despite it being pretty obvious from her live performances (particularly Summertime onwards) that she was anything but. Other artists are played differently - Cowell talks them up on camera before the live shows, partly to get the buzz going and maybe partly to improve their confidence. I think Ashley was a classic example of this. |

Ashley was never on my radar or that of anyone I know who watches the show and if Simon and Louis (and Sharon) thought that he would appeal to the public in any great number, it says more about them than anything else.

The trouble is IMO the themed nights; it completely knocks anyone with a niche for one type of music. If you want to launch an act you pick a genre and usually stick to it in order to gain a stable fanbase etc. The theme nights completely knock this out of the water and underlines the weaknesses of the acts.
IMO it was much better when the judges chose songs for the acts to sing; admitedley some don't take too much risks; but that is what you do with artists; you play to their strengths |

i like the themed weeks (though some of the themes are awful) it forces the acts to take risks.
