Bovril recall
Glamfan
28-09-2008
I've been trying to find a jar of Bovril for weeks - there's none in any of our shops! I googled 'Bovril recall' and found this:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2552...ts-recall.html

I don't get any newspapers so I hadn't read about it - but I do listen to the news on the radio every day, and nothing had been mentioned. Did they deliberately keep it quiet, or had I (and all my family) just completely missed it?

Glad I saw this. I've got an unopened one in the kitchen cupboard, which needless to say, I'll be chucking out.

It's only some jars - check the date on it, if it's Jan 2010 then it's dodgy.

The article is from Aug 13th - they've not really made a big thing about letting people know, have they?

I only know of this because I saw a product recall notice at work (I work in a supermarket). I've had tons of people ask where it's gone but I didn't know Salmonella was the reason.

*bump*

Sorry to bump my own thread - but I've been thinking about this, and I remember in the spring all my family had a long lasting reccurrent nausea & diarrhoea bug (for 2 or 3 months). A lot of people we knew had the same thing, and I remember several on DS had it too. It does make me wonder whether there is a connection.

I only opened this because I thought it was about a new Schwarzenegger film...

For me, Bovril is one of those things I buy in about January, have a couple of drinks or rounds of toast, then forget about it till it gets cold again. By which time it's gone all manky and I need to buy a new one.

Love the Bovril flavour crisps...

There were product recall notices in newspapers and some shops had notices up, it was mentioned on the TV and the radio at the time.

I went to the shops today - and STILL no Bovril, 6 weeks after the recall..... that makes me wonder whether there's a more widespread problem than they have let on? Every batch has been recalled, not just the affected batches......

It is often in short supply, for some reason. See my post from earlier this year.

I've seen 125g jars in Morrisons and Booths recently, if fact I've just finished one I bought about a month ago. I'll get another tonight if I remember - will check if the expiry date is later than on the recalled jars to confirm they are still making it.

We don't have a Morrisons or Booths anywhere near..... I'll try Somerfield & Rainbow, not been there yet.

I have to make non-Bovril gravy tonight!

PS - I think I know you from another site, Diablo - I'm Deb Arkle on there, and will be on here soon when they can manage to change my name!

I thought it wuz you, bit of a coincidence if it weren't!

Just got back from Morrisons. Amazingly they had 250g jars - so I got two of them, the expiry date on them is Feb 2010.

Maybe it's your area's turn to have the shortage?
