Is this year really that good?
I thought the talent this year was really good until watching tonight.
The girls all seem inconsistent except Alexandra. The boys well what can i say Austin is ok, Eoghan is very cute..But is there a winner here? The groups - Girl band + Bad lashes seem quite good, Jls are ok. Desire seem to be all over the place..Others = forgettable. Over 25: Only one good one and thats Rachel but will the public support her? The spanish lady is only good when she sings in spanish but will the Uk vote for her singing spanish? So overall i think this year isn't as good as i first thought. Whats everyone elses thoughts? Also i hated the setup of this years bootcamp. |

They raved in a similar way about this year's American Idol finalists and then when it came to the live shows most of them crumbled.

Overall I think this year's standard is higher than usual at this stage. There are two acts I hate, but which I feel fairly sure we will see live, namely Austin and Laura, but I like most of the others (some more than others).

Some of them need some work but that makes the finals more interesting, IMO. Diana is a perfect example of this and the girls in general are both talented and interesting (if they pick the right ones).
The guys are stronger than I thought. And the groups with Bad Lashes and JLS (who will surely make the top 12) look better than they have for years. The 25+ category is the weakest one, although Ruth (the sexy Spanish one) and Rachel are both pretty good and interesting as well. |

Don't agree. Laura was only inconsistent because she changed the arrangement of the songs. Diana, like Simon said, is improving time and time again, and Alexandra is great all the time. Hannah and Amy are good at times, I agree, but Anastacia was good.
The boys are good bar Eoghan IMO, so I think the talent is great there. Overs are good too, only Danny that isn't great, and even then he's acceptable, and I think the groups are the best they have been. |

Laura, Amy, Alex, Diana and Ruth are all fantastic - this year really does seem to have an awful lot of strong female talent.

Wrong thread to make this comment but didn't want to start up another just for it BUT was I the only one who was giggling at the 'older brother' remark that Simon Cowell made toward that lad who said his help was like that from a father figure??!
![]() Well I thought it was funny.

Yes, lots of different styles and lots more good ability, rather than mediocre with a sob story. |

I think it's a great year.
I'd say we could potentially have the best final 12 yet. |

I think the final twelve is brilliant. If I could change one thing it'd be that one of the girl groups went (Girl Band), because two girl groups is a bit much for me.
I like Eoghan, Scott, Laura, Diana, JLS and Danny, though. |

I think Rachel will also be brilliant in the live shows. I agree with Simon and think she has the best voice that I've heard in years. I totally adore Leona, but still think Rachel has more raw soul and excitement in her voice. I would love her to win, but know that the GBP won't give this black girl who is mouthy and a bit rough the chance she deserves. Even if she loses, I hope she gets a record contract somehow, because she is the only one that I would buy a record from. |

I agree with you - I can't stand these two either. I don't rate Laura's voice at all and she really annoys me with her shiny face and stupid hair. Austin's voice is okay, but I can't stand his personality - he's really craven and creepy. Yeeeuuuchhh! Rachel to win! |

I think that this year, during the auditions, and more than in any other year, the quality (overall) has been high.
However, in saying that, the bootcamp stages are very disappointing, IMO, with Rachel and Alex being the only real standouts. I don't think we shall have much of a competition this year at all. That will make it a dull competition for me. |

I think it is a very good year, in the sense that at least for me, there are hardly any acts left that I don't like. I also think that we're quite forgetting the idea behind the mentoring; some people disappointed me in boot camp, yes, but not because of not being talented.
For example, I think Laura is very talented, for example, and if she makes it to the live shows, mentoring might help her shake the "I'm Wino copycat" vibe about her. It was Cheryl who said she looked like Amy after a few drinks, so I'm sure it will be something she'd want to work on with Laura. What I like so much about the X-Factor, and is different from all kinds of other idol shows, is that you get by far more guidance, so it's really about seeing talent in people and then working with it and helping them with it, rather to have them ready for packaging. It will make the show a lot less interesting; the best part about it is to actually see them grow. Just look at Leon - regardless of your musical taste or what success he had outside the show, if you look at him in the beginning of the show and in the end, you see how much progress he went through. So I think it's actually really exciting to look at this year's cadre, just because I think most of them are pretty leveled, and try to guess who will be the one who will really shine. It's the first time I don't have a favorite/bet of a winner in that phase of the competition (I always had one, and I was always right, which sometimes surprised even myself, like with Steve) and I love it! |
