I honestly cannot believe that some people are saying the things they are.

Regardless of how many times he has tried he has a good voice that gets better everytime I hear him perform. Does it really matter if he has tried to/has signed to things he wants to succeed and when you want that then what you do is take every opportunity with both hands and do what you can.

Does it matter if he is gay? Honestly and truly?? I really dont think that it should make a difference at all.

It amazes me that in this country we knock the slackers who sit on their arses all day spending taxpayers money and then we slate all the tryhards who want to better themselves.

I for one will be supporting Austin and I think some of the things he is being judged on has NOTHING to do with him being able to perform and sing well.

rant over

I don't think people dislike him for any of the reasons mentioned in your post

His good voice is marred by his desparation and neediness which IMO negates anything special about him.

It may be down to the editing; but EVERY shot he is crying and blubbering on and on. Every time he sings he cries as well, after a while it wears thin

Echoing Sidespin Nid - the reasons you have listed are in no way why most people don't like him

Because this forum needs a whipping boy every series. Two years ago it was Ray, last year it was Leon, this year it looks like it's going to be Austin......lucky him, eh?

I love him and I will be voting for him, if he makes the live shows. It really doesn't bother me that he's not afraid to show emotion and I believe him when he says he loves music. The guy has a really soulful voice and I really think he's going to win the whole thing!

No one has ever said it makes a difference, or called him gay as a 'bad thing'.

And people dislike him because he is extremely media savvy (through his previous careers), and his crying on demand is pure manipulation.

He is not shy and sensative like it is being made out, he is very cocky and arrogant.

My main problem with Austin is that he is a total media whore and has already had several chances at success and failed.

Pretending to be gay in a gay boy band just to gain fame is lame. No one would say being gay is a problem as it isn't.

Lying about being gay when your not however just to get famous doesn't paint a good picture of him and it's no wonder X Factor are trying to bury all his past history.

I'm sure that somewhere along the line there have been lies about his age too (not pointing the finger at him because I'm not 100% sure).

I could of sworn that he was referred to as being 20 on Sundays episode. He aint. Did anyone else notice that?

I agree that if he really isnt gay and all the previous stuff has just been out of desperation than that isnt very good. However if he wants to not talk about it then fine. His right. Mika refuses to although obviously is gay. I just hope if asked and he is gay that he says yes. It would be wonderful to have an openly gay guy on the X Factor and will give young people coming to terms with their sexuality someone to look up to.

If he is 20 then he would have been just 16 when in was in 5boyz. So old enough. I don't know his age though. I think prove of it has to be shown to the producers. So his age is probably correct I would think.

I think on yesterdays show it summed him up..How pathetic of him saying before he sung 'Please don't take my dream away' that put the judges in an awkward position.

OP, I think a lot of people genuinely do not like him - simple as.

I can't explain why, but there's is something that screams 'beware' everytime I see his crying face.
Maybe is same for others.
And he is not THAt good at singing, either (the boys aren't great this year).

But he is 22, not 20, so it is not correct, assuming that I heard Dermots voiceover properly

As things stand now, I like him a lot.

One thing I've learnt from BB, Strictly and the few threads that I've read here is that I'm rarely in step with some of the more vociferous forum members.

This makes me happy.

Because this forum needs a whipping boy every series. Two years ago it was Ray, last year it was Leon, this year it looks like it's going to be Austin......lucky him, eh?

Stuff like that stifles genuine criticism IMO. People don't just pick on acts for no reason. Leon didn't actually get it that bad until it got down to the last few stages and that's just natural. Leon wasn't actually the forum favourite and so was a big threat for the win and that's why he did get some strong criticism by some on here. Plus Hope and Niki had it a lot worse throughout the show so the whipping "boy" theory doesn't really hold up.

I don't particularly remember Ray having it so bad. He was a nice guy but he really wasn't as good as the other acts anyway so even if it did happen at the time it was justified. Leona got a lot of criticism actually too , and hardly any was constructive (something which still seems to linger on here). The main criticism was levelled at the MacDonalds though that year (and justifiably so).

People don't criticise acts just because they need a whipping boy , it's usually because they're doing something that annoys them. For me it's the fact that everything about him seems so contrived. He cries at every opportunity yet he's been in 2 bands who've had some chart success and numerous tv shows yet he acts like it's his first time doing anything like this and it's all overwhelming.

After the whole Lady Shiverz incident I think anyone who blindly accepts what they are shown on the X Factor might as well write the word "mug" on their forehead. And I remember Chenai in Series 2 being crucified because she cried at every opportunity yet the same grace doesn't seem to be extended to Austin...I wonder why........

Mainly I dislike his voice, followed by an irritating personality. I have no interest in his personal life or sexuality.

I have no good reason for disliking him, there is just something creepy and off-putting about him.
