On Saturday I was out shopping in Chester. It was lunch-time-ish and I saw a Burger King. It was filthy and dirty! There were chips all over the floor, the seats were covered in ketchup and there was a drunken man with BO in there! The food was not cooked properly and the ice-cream machine wasn't working. Bad on you Burger King!

Have you had any other bad experiences with Burger King?

I find it's hit and miss with BK. The one in Sutton serves up crap, yet the one in Clapham is like a different outlet. Never had a problem in there.

I have to agree with regard to hygiene though. BK leaves a lot to be desired in that dept.

The problem with Burger King is all they care about is cash. Not about customer services or hygiene or even quality of food. How do they expect customers if it's like that?

When I was 15 I had a weekend job in burger king.

Lets just say I have never eaten their food since.

The deep fat fryer that the chips are cooked in does not get cleaned, ever.

One day the burgers were coming out semi-raw, and the guy on the burger board had been making them regardless, hence many unhappy customers that day

Staff would tamper with the food for a 'laugh' e.g putting butterscoth sauce, and pieces of donut into the burgers.

Sounds quite 'cliche' but I saw many burgers get dropped on the floor, before going through the boiler, and then picked up and used.

Out of date buns were used.

Burgers would remain in the steamer for hours and hours before use.

The kitchen was disgustingly dirty too.

Eat there at your own risk

BK really don't seem very good at ensuring consistency across their franchises. I've been into quite a few that have just seemed dingy and dirty, more like a 2am kebab shop than anything else. KFC also seem really bad at making sure their outlets portray the image they want.

McDonalds and Subway seem much better about ensuring standards, although no doubt there will now be hundreds of posts saying how awful all fast food outlets are and if you ever eat in them then you deserve to die a long painful death, and why should the taxpayer foot the bill etc etc etc

If you stand for long enough you can see the rats running between my local BK and the manky tandoori down the road.

When I was very young, me and a gentleman friend of mine had a bit of a teeny grope under the table. So yes BK is dirty. Filthy in fact. Pure sex.

The problem with BK is the chips dont have much if any salt on them, and McDonalds have too much. KFC is the only place i've discovered which isnt swimming in salt or completely dry.

Because you get a salt sachet in the meal.

Well yesterday, I went in to Burger King, had a look round, and went straight out through the other door. Not because I noticed it was outrageously dirty or anything, but the queue was mahoosive.

I ca only stomach KFC chips if they are drowned in tomato sauce. Otherwise, I find the taste of them nauseating.

Ahhh, you must live near me!

The new one in St. Nick's Centre isn't bad in my opinion, actually

The one in South Croydon (near where Beanos is) is terrible! It's nearly always empty and it's just, "mehhhh". The door leading to the toilets is always open and there's a table in front of it.

Burger King is a franchise and from the sound of it, they don't have very high standards and aren't very strict.

But yes, this is why different branches are different from others in terms of cleanliness and stuff.

Burger King isn't the only filthy fast food outlet. KFC, McDonalds and Wimpy can be just as bad. There's nothing worse than sitting down at filthy tables that are sticky and grimey.

I went to Burger King today. It didn't look that bad. Some of the customers were another story though. We had to go upstairs to avoid the drunk family! I don't go in very often, though. Anyway, my son contributed to the filth by chucking his food all over the floor (I did clear it up).

But yes, this is why different branches are different from others in terms of cleanliness and stuff.
Not all the restaurants are franchised - the company also owns about 80 throughout the country. They have extremely strict standards (they have to by law) and everyone that works there has to go through Food Hygiene Training before they start work. Throughout the day temperature checks are taken and recorded and there is no way that uncooked food should go out.

I could tell you about the lack of standards in many different fast food outlets (but I'd best not!) and I can guarantee that BK has by far the best systems. Unfortunately that doesn't always guarantee a clean restaurant.

I'm not sticking up for them, but I work in food safety and I audit many different fast food places, and I see so much variation throughout the country. Some quieter BK restaurants may seem cleaner because they have more crew members who are available to clean, and it obviously shouldn't be like this. The managers have such a tiny labour budget that at peak times it can be practically impossible to spare a crew member to go and clean the loos. It's not good at all, but what can they do when they are not allowed to take on any more employees and customers are verbally threatening staff because they haven't been served quickly enough? You try telling a steaming angry bloke 'sorry love just got to go and clean out the bins I'll do your order in a minute' and see what happens! (I've seen what happens and it's not pretty!)

If anyone has any concerns about their visit then please let the restaurant manager know. That way things can be improved

I was actually in one in Sutton today (well the drive-through anyway ). The burger was pretty tasteless and the bun felt almost stale.

Quick, blame the franchise! Don't blame the manager's or their employees for having a rubbish work ethic. Certainly don't blame the customers who see the unhealthy conditions and don't bother to turn them in to the local department of health.

Some of the stories are vile. The Burger King in Harlow has always been dirty, everything from the restaurant floor to the food prep area, gross.

The last BK I ever had, I bit into it and there was a large bit of plastic within the patty itself. Never, ever eat there again.

I was once in my local Burger King. The girl serving us was sweating really heavily on her forehead. She wiped it with her hand and then proceeded to serve our food.

Needless to say only the burgers got eaten, as they were wrapped and the coke drank as it had allready been served. We have not been back to them since.

If it's the one down Foregate St - it's right in the drinking section of the city and the staff have probably given up.

When I think of all the great old shops that used to be there like Penny Lane Records and see what a hovel it's becoming - it's pretty sad. Beggars and pissheads now adorn that part of town.

If all you are doing is serving drunks all day, you're not going to have much pride in your work.

I think there's another Burger King in Upper Bridge Street.
