Samsung TV Limitation - Samsung Elec and Dabs.Com
mlythaby
29-09-2008
I have a problem with my Samsung 225MD Monitor TV.

If is is unplugged from the mains it loses its set up and analogue channels the DTV keeps its channels.

Samsung state this is a limitation and all their new TV's do this, which I find very alarming in this day and age of energy saving. (Well if you can believe them as depending which technician you get you get a differnet answer!)

I have tried for a refund from Dabs but with no luck, neither Dabs or Samsung see to really care.

I am at present writing a letter of complaint to Samsung and Dabs.

Any thoughts, does yout TV do this?

regards

We have just bought a Samsung 19" LCD for the kitchen, have noticed that when you disconnect the power to it, you lose the settings you have set up "ie" picture ones, dynamic, standard and movie , just wonderd if this is norm,
any views please.

That's the first time I've ever heard of it. I work for a manufacturer and none of our TVs lose analogue or digital settings when switched off.

If it is "normal", it can only be a cost saving exercise to save the cost of a NV Memory chip or backup capacitor.

'Backup capacitor'

No ones used those for many years, the last people who did were the really, really, crap manufacturers.

I know, but I was covering all angles. If it's crappy enough to not save analogue settings, it may be crappy enough to have one.

I have written to Dabs and they 'Cant help'

I have writted to Samsung Customer Care and they replied regarding a problem with my Microwave!!!!!!

I have written again pointing out their mistake and asking them to read the letter again., I have also written to the CEO for Samsung Europe.

If you have just purhased it take it striaght back and get a refund. If you leave it too long it will be too late.

Actually I've just designed a piece of kit with a backup capacitor (supercap in this case).

It shouldn't really be necessary because the kit has two sets of alkalines and the customer should replace one set at a time - however they keep forgetting to do this so the backup is there for the short time they're changing the batteries. (It does have FLASH as well)

SAMSUNG where are you, this man knows what the customer wants, perhaps you could give him a job?

It it has FLASH then why are you storing things in capacitor backed RAM? - presumably there's a reason?.

I get stick for saying this, but I've always found Samsung to be a 2nd rate manufacturer. This is fairly typical, it's not actually faulty, just really irritating! The experience re microwave reply is also typical. Most other manufacturers really are better than this, even if not perfect.

Check the full model code on the rating label on the back, if it ends with anything other than /EDC, /XEU or /EN then it's a grey import, and unfortunately Samsung's European customer care teams won't have any information on it - which might be why you're lucking out getting a response.

Someone else on here had a similar problem with their Samsung TV losing it's settings, apparently there is a 'SHOP' mode for TV's that is designed to stop people messing about with them.

Does the monitor have shop & home modes, by any chance?

I have a 26" Samsung LCD tv, the model number is LE26R7
which is probably an older model than yours. Every night I
switch it off at the mains since I don't believe in wasting
power by keeping it in standby. It never loses any of the settings so I don't see why your model should be any
different.

If it is still within the gaurantee period, return it as being
faulty. You can describe the fault as 'loses settings when
switched off'. No tv is supposed to do this.
