Sky Remote & AV Equipment

I have SkyDigital and was wondering if anybody has a list of codes that I can use to programm the remote to communicate with my AV amp rather than the tele.

At the moment I have to use another remote to control the sound (all the sound signals go straight into the sorround amp).

Does anybody use universal remotes to get everything working in harmony??? Both the Sony amp and Philips Tele remotes have universal functions which obviously don't work on other models!!!

I lost my Sky remote so I decided to invest in a One For All remote and it was the best thing I ever did. It controls my tv, video, amp, dvd player and digibox. So gone are the days of fumbling around with 5 remotes. It took a little while for my husband and kids to get used to it but they are well away with it now.

Once you have your appliance correctly coded in, it has all the basic commands in it but you can teach it more specialised commands that are present on your original remote just by pointing it at the One For All (following step by step instructions). I wouldn't use any other remote now.

I don't think you can get the Sky remote to work your other equipment.

Wicket: Cheers for that info, I noticed a few of these remotes in Dixons of the weekend, do you know the exact type (ie. 142,143,14all???)

P.S. I gather from reading your message that your a female? I wish my wife was so enthousiastic about our home cinema!!!

Hi

The type I bought was an One For All 5-Way Remote (URC 7550) which has controls for tv, cd, vcr, amp and digital satellite for £28.99. I was lucky with buying a Sony amp and dvd player because they have universal remotes so I was able to copy dvd functions on to the amp buttons.

However, One For All have brought out a new remote that has a specific button for dvd players which may be worth you looking at. The One For All website lists all their models. We are extremely happy with it for day to day use. I occasionally have to get the other remotes out if I am using menu functions on the tv/video but for basic functions the remote is ideal.

My husband calls me 'Techno Queen' and yes I am extremely interested in home cinema. I really enjoy learning from this website.

Cool, thanx for that info. I have had a look at their site and as I have a widescreen tele, dvd, video, digisat and amp I'll probably need the top model which is a little too expensive 4 me at the moment.

So, does that mean you have to pursuade your husband whenever you want a new piece of kit for your home cinema? I think my wife is going to leave me if I buy one for techi thing!!!

He is happy to go along with what I think is a good idea but he wouldn't bother with half the things if I didn't push for them and then once we have them he thinks they are a great idea. He was not bothered about getting a Dolby Prologic home cinema system a few years ago but went along with it and then thought it was the business. The same has happened with our recent upgrade to the Sony HTK 215 and then the dvd player which followed closely behind it. Well it seemed a shame not to be able to take advantage of the dd5.1 and dts sound on the amp, well that's my excuse.

However, he would go out tomorrow and buy the biggest widescreen we could afford but I am insisting we wait till this one breaks first. We could have a long wait because it has been such a reliable set (Sony) but wouldn't all those dvds look so much better on a widescreen!

It is a shame about the remote but they may come down in price or be on offer sometime if you keep your eyes open. If I spot any reductions on them I will let you know.

Thanks for that interesting reading.... I'll keep my eye on the remotes, but personally I think their very clever, I mean look how much you spend on amps, dvd players and widescreen tele's, a remote a £200, your gonna buy it!!!!

Thanx..
