Does anyone have any ideas on how to get rid of budgie lice?

I took my budgie to a vet today and he wanted £50 quid to inject the bird. He also said the bird might not survive!

so obviously i left!

I had origionally thought there would be a spray for around 5 pound after reading about it on the net, but the vet said this was no longer available!

Is there any way I can wash the thing at home with dog flea shampoo or fairy liquid etc?

In my opinion you take on an animal you have to be prepared to look after it. I had a snake once who needed constant care from the vets. It was all to no avail and he died anyway but I had to try and get him sorted. It cost a small fortune but I took on the responsibility of owning a snake so i had to do my very best for it. I've had cats at the vet recently and they've all cost me around the £150 mark for treatments.

The lesson is if you can't afford to care for the budgie see if you can get it rehomed or contact your local rescue centre for advice on places that will take it. If you are on benefits you should try the PDSA.

What about Johnsons Antimite Spray? You can get that online for £3-5.

You can buy mite spray in any good pet shop, are you sure it's lice? Budgies get mites normally, not lice. You can also buy a product called Ivermectin from online vets without prescription, which is a spot-on that you put on the birds back at the base of the neck where they can't get to it to groom. This should kill any nasties on your bird.

Oh, and I don't like the way you said "wash the thing"
