I noticed my local Pets at Home has stopped selling cotton wool-style bedding.

They just carry shredded and recycled paper bits, which my hamsters seem to enjoy.

I love my hamsters. If it was up to me, I'd have about a dozen.

I noticed that when I last went in to get a new hamster cage they was giving out starter kits for free, so I thought I might as well have it. The set contained wood shavings (that set me up to 3 big packets now, no need to go shopping for it for a while ), a packet of the very nice shredded bedding, some hamster vitamin drops that you just need to put in their food, a hamster book and some other stuff.

I will be getting that bedding from now on! The Pets at Home shredded bedding was a lot better than what I've seen at other places as it wasnt long and stringy that you had to break up yourself, it was all done for you

Does anyone else's hamster do this? We have the shredded bedding, white with pink and blue flecks of paper mixed in with it. Our hamster picks out the pink bits and piles it up outside his house. I didnt think hamsters saw in colour

We have a really pretty little syrian hamster girl called Harriet.
We got her a few weeks back when our male Syrian boy Toffee passed on to hammy heaven ( RIP Toffee !)
She is a beautiful little hamster and such a character.
She is very tame and hasn't bit any of us- yet.
Today I was workin gin the study and heard a noise.
A strange cat ( no idea where it came from ) had jumped through the window and was looking hopefully at the hamsters cage. The barefaced cheek !

Mine seems to be quite discerning as to which pieces he wants in his house, but I cant say hes ever been able to sort the colours out.
Maybe it smells or feels different to him because of the colours?
Bless him

Having never seen the item you're talking about I presume there would still be a distinguishable enough tone difference between pink and whatever else colour to notice if vision was monochromatic.

(not saying that is the case, just a possibility)

My hamsters recently taken to stuffing his cheeks with food, and then going up to the second level to his wheel. Once he's in the wheel he empties his cheeks in it, and then runs full pelt on it, so the food flies everywhere! It's so funny. But noisy!
