I was thinking if this work or not what I would like to do is

put my Sky+ box into my Dvd home kit by scart lead then run a HDMI cable from my home dvd kit to my HD telly so I get a better pic with my Sky+ box.

Would this work??

Just my 2p's worth but....

Can't see it no... SCART is 625line PAL analogue either composite, S-Video or RGB..... SO your Sky box converts digital to analogue, you send it to this 'home dvd kit' (whatever you mean by that) and assuming THAT'S capable of analogue to digital conversion IT converts the signal to digital form sends the digital signal to the TV....

Thing is A to D and D to A conversion are imperfect processes, and they're typically best carried out within the device to which the A/D or D/A converter is matched.

Basically you're adding an extra unnecessary layer of signal processing which is more likely to degrade the picture slightly... Unless you're using this 'dvd home kit' as a switcher or something I can't see any advantage....

OH and IF by some chance by "dvd home kit" (honestly; I've no idea what sort of unit you mean) you mean an upscaling DVD player it seems unlikely that it would even have an input at all let alone one capable of A to D conversion.... I suppose thert may be DVD recorders on the market with this feature but honestly; I can't see this being a particularly useful signal path...

Can you tell me the make/model and I'll look at the specs to see what exactly it does and doesn't do?

It won't work - there's no video "IN" facility on that unit. Check out p18 of the manual - it shows you how to connect a Sky+ box; Basically you route the audio L & R phono to the Philips unit, the video goes straight to the TV.

As above....

The unit is basically a DVD player and amplifier in the same box. It has a spare AUDIO input, but no video inputs and certainly no means of doing the A to D conversion...

Personally I'd hook the player (the home cinema unit) to the screen via the HDMI and the sky box via SCART. Send the audio output from the sky box (possibly a pair of phonos) to the 'aux in' of the home theeatre system. Kill the volume on the TV...

This will let you use the amplifier in your home theatre system for all your viewing, which should be a bit of an improvement ont he standard TV sound.

Take a little comfort though. I'm not sure that an external 'upscaler' (which is essentially what you'd have had if your idea worked) would be better than the one built into the set... So as it is you're probably getting as good as it'll get anyway...
