I was looking to buy a new tv to replace my old lcd that packed up yesterday. I was going to get the Toshiba 32XV505DB which has excellent reviews, however I have heard that 1080p tv's are bad for upscaling SD channels. I currently have a standard dvd recorder and Sky+ but would be looking to change to Sky HD in the future. Does anyone have any experience of SD upscaling on a 32" 1080p screen. Would I be better off going for a lower spec screen now and getting a better screen when I get HD?

How well the TV will upscale depends more on how good the TV is rather than it's resolution.

I would suggest you consider whether you need a 1920x1080 TV in the first place. Since it's 32" you need to sit very close to it to get any benefit from the higher resolution - 6' (head to screen) is the absolute furthest you would want to sit from a TV of this size to get any benefit.

I thought 1080p was better for upscaling as the 'height' for a SD resolution image is 540 ie x2 whereas a 1366x768 TV has to scale that 540 to 768.

But of course some models are better than others I guess.
