I would like to connect my SkyHD box to the NAC 252 via the Optical output from the SkyHD box. I don't intend to have 5.1 Channel sound for now and just want to get the stereo sound from the Naim applification.

The complication is that I have already done the under carpet cabling between the TV unit (where the SKYHD is and the Fraim). I have an Optical cable as well as a Digital Coaxial.

What options do I have?

Can I get a convertor that can I get that will connect to the optical cable or Coaxial and output to a DIN to DIN cable or a 2 Phono to DIN cable that can connect to 252? Can I use the Unity Gain feature on the 252?

Thanks,

The Naim only has analogue inputs, the optical output from sky is digital. You will need some kind of decoder to connect them. Alternatively can you not use the analogue red/white phono outputs of the skyhd box.

I have ordered the Beresford TC-7510. I seems to be getting great reviews.

Why not just use the existing analogue outputs on the back of the Sky box?, no need to buy anything (assuming you have a twin phono lead lying around).

The OP has already laid under carpet cabling and presumably doesn't have phono cables as an option, only coaxial and optical.

One solution without laying more cables would be a DAC - GEFEN do one which is relatively cheap.

Adding DACs seems like an overly complex and expensive solution when there's going to be no surround sound system involved.

A phono to DIN cable would do the job easily and cheaply. It would also avoid adding something that could generate noise into the audio chain.

I got the Beresford TC-7510 I can it has worked great. I had previously connected the optical to Arcam AV100 and them feed the stereo to the Naim system. Compared to that the Beresford much better. More open sound and much cleaner in general. If you have a high end Hi-fi system and would like to enjoy Sky sound better, consider this option. Altough it is not cheap, I think it is value for money.
