According to the Radio Times website the theme for the first week will be UK and US Number Ones. Quite a lot of scope there then.

Intersting that they include US #1s. They are really looking for an international star.

I dont think that comes into it really. Just makes the theme more expansive and wide-ranging. It will be interesting to see if anyone gets to sing Bleeding Love.

Thats good, large scope. However i wonder if they still give them a limited choice of songs anyway?

they'll still only have about 50-100 songs to choose from, the show doesn't seek permission to use any song made, just the ones that the producers want or already have permission for. Thats why we get some songs sung every single series.

I never really see X Factor as being "themed" as they are generally such broad themes that allow all sorts of music, apart from the inevitable big band week. That's why I never really "get" it when the judges reject somebody at the audition stage because they wouldn't cope with Abba week!

Hope nobody does Bleeding Love (which has just come on the radio AGAIN), cannot bear that song!

I doubt anyone would dare as it's near impossible to top her vocal.

Some songs sung in auditions have re-entered the chart. I think one even went to #10 after not being in the chart for ages!

So, who is Simon gonna get to sing Bleeding Love, A moment like this, beter in time?

Better In Time wasn't Number 1.

Based on what we've seen from the auditions so far, the only one who I think could give that a decent attempt would be Alexandra.

Although even she would struggle with it if they included the runs.

I think it would be absolutely suicide for any contestant to sing Bleeding Love - it wouldn't be as good and just wouldn't bring them any fans - neither Leona nor non-Leona fans.

Wonder if it means songs that were number one in the uk and us, rather than songs that made number one in either country, inspired by former winner Leona topping both charts maybe.

no surprise that its such a wide theme for the first week, last years first show had some very ropey performances

I hope they keep the choreography to a minimum for a few weeks as well, the acts struggle with just their vocals on the first few shows...last year it was ridiculous for them to have to dance about the stage as well, and led to a disappointing show. We can see if they can dance later on when the weak ones are out and the nerves have gone.

why would simon get them singing leona songs? there are other bigger and better singers in the US/UK and there songs would be more appropriate considering they have been around alot longer, hope they pick better songs that last year for the 1st week

with Leona releasing a single very soon I would think that Simon will be plugging Leona right left and center on the Xfactor

Leona's new song 'forgive me' is out very soon, and is included on the re-release of her album...so its highly likely she'll be on one of the first live shows. They will want the album back in the limelight in time for Xmas

Because it is a "look what we did here in the X-Factor, we're big enough to actually have someone to sing songs of" moment. And you know Simon, he loves to show off what a big great success it is.

Also, since I prefer the Jesse McCartney version to Bleeding Love anyway, it can be kinda cool if Simon lets one of his boys sing it. If we have to be subjected to this song, I rather have something different than a girl trying to be Leona.

ArtyAttack - Do you mind if I change that description to Butchered Versions of UK and US Number Ones? The first live show will be not far off 2 hours, including more padding than (insert tasteless bra joke here) so why can't we see the full 4 minute version of all 12 songs?

As much as I agree with the sentiment completely, I would think that after how ever many years and various idol shows, we'll get used to the butchering by now?

No, not really, but that's like the one thing I really ran out of energy to complain about. I rather look at the positive side and hope that maybe one day people will improve in choosing songs that are easier to sing in a butchered version.

Bleeding Love, for example, will work wonders, because a 1.5 minutes of it is more than enough and I really don't need the entire song.

Don't give in on this one Shi_fs - I promise you then when you see a young singer in a bar (or on a cruise ship) singing your favourite song of all time - with a whole section missing - you will be shocked beyond belief.
Like picking up a text message version of the Bible - no scrub that, i am going a bit over the top there......

Nobody will sing "Bleeding Love" because the comparisons will just cause problems. Cowell will get to show off when he gets her on. It's now more important for the show to have her on than for her to be there. She's already sold millions of albums, but the X Factor only has one "international superstar" and that is essential to the image of the show.

Leon will still get plenty publicity, though. He'll be on the first show which is the same slot Leona got last year. I don't remember any Leona fans complaining when Shayne was invited on last year? So I don't see why it matters that she is there this year.

Dear, I'm way way way beyond shocked beyond belief. As an experienced Idol-like show viewer, I've witnessed countless crimes against music. I've only ever seen one show in which they sing the whole song, or at least don't cut the songs as much. Other than that, in every other country that has that kind of show, it's butcher-time.

No one will sing bleeding love, it will just be saying "send me home now" as they will just be compared to leona and no one will top her.
