I want a pet
ladyinblue

I would really like to get a pet but I don't know what. We had a cat before and in the end we had to re-home her because we had just had a new baby but now our son is older I want to get another pet but not another cat. I don't think it would be fair to have a dog in a small flat so thats out of the question. I really want a goldfish or something but my husband said that he would be the one to clean it and everything but I don't know what else to get. Could anyone give me any ideas I am really fussy though I don't want a rabbit or a hamster or gerbil or anything like that. But I just want a pet

I could do a deal on as many mice as you'd like. Sure I can't tempt you?

Please yourself Still, I would have had a job wrestling them from the cats jaws ...

Do you fancy a cuddly pet or something exotic?

So you don't want a cat? Or a dog? Or a fish as you have to change the tank? So I guess that rules out anything in a cage that needs regular changing? (IE hamsters, gerbils, budgies) and I imagine in a flat you do not have a garden so can't have bunnies or Gunea Pigs?

You're not making it easy LOL

All pets need cleaning and other care. You do need to work this bit out.

By way of a suggestion: Zebra Finches are quite small and easy to keep, although any caged bird obviously needs regular cleaning.

I know. Thanks for the link. I really want a goldfish though so I'm going to try and convince my husband to get me one

I'm not really into birds. I don't like them. They make too much noise. Like me

I'd like to say you shock me with this revelation but!!! LOL

Okay, so we have ruled out any regular furry, reptiles, feathered ...

How about ...

a zoo or farm animal? I'm getting desperate here

A Tamagotchi in a furry pouch would probably tick all the boxes.

Whats wrong with a snake?

They are beautiful animals and, if you get the right kind, very docile and extremely low maintenance. While you may not sit with them in your lap like a cat (although you can if you want), they do have the advantage over a fish that you can actually handle them. (And they are NOT slimy! ..... they're smooth and cool to the touch)

If you get a good tank with good filtration then you should only need to do a 1/3 water change every 3 or so weeks.

The other alternative to to get a rabbit or guinea pig- both are pretty docile for kids but need a fair bit of room for exercise etc.

I saw puffer fish for sale the other week. If you got a heater for the tank they would make cool pets
