I think in the case of this thread the term "robbed" is being used in the context of being robbed of a desire or opportunity, not of something someone already has.

Just like the way it's used in football matches when a team doesn't win and supporters say they were robbed as they felt that they deserved to win more. Again it's all just down to personal preferences, which is what a discussion forum is all about.

It's a saying used many times in competitions I would say.

How is Leon returning home to Scotland a sob story? Niki and Beverely and Emily all had sob stories and they didn't win.

For me: Rhydian, Ben Mills, Tabby and Futureproof. The band had a lot of potential and should have stayed over Hope last year, in my opinion.

I didn't want Leon to win either, not at all.

But I don't see how the public were manipulated.

Some people can admittedly be manipulated by what they see on a TV programme like 'X Factor'. Nobody on this earth will make me change my mind over supporting a contestant as I have a mind of my own. If I like someone - I like someone. I don't need someone else (especially Simon Cowell or any of the other judges) telling me who to like (or not like as sometimes seems to happen).

i think the only way it was manipulated isn't because of leons sob story so much, but because rhydians vt showed his first audition when dannii pulled a face and then sharon saying he was a creep

PS. I'd like to point out that I am a fan of neither Rhydian or Leon but watched the final and felt that Rhydian was the better singer and deserved to win... I was so disgusted by the way he was treated I'm not watching Xfactor this year

How Rhydian was treated? I was disgusted at how Simon Cowell treated Leon last year.

My comments only refer to last year's final. I can imagine Simon being unkind to many contestants, including Leon, but watching last year's final, it was clear to me from very early on who Simon had chosen as the winner and everything was done to undermine Rhydian and influence the voting public ... This thread is about who should have won that didn't, and the final is the ultimate decider.

XF 3 - My favourite won that year.
XF 4 - I don't think I really care to be honest. I wasn't attached to anyone that year. Alisha was probably my favourite of the final 12, though. And Steph and Dominic should've made the live shows, I think I would've been attached to them.

Eh? By that do you mean that Simon had chosen Leon? He had openly favoured Rhydian all the way through the series, IMO.

Rhydian was hyped up throughout the entire show. He was portrayed as the one to beat and as the star of the show. In Leon's Fly me to the Moon VT one of Louis's comments is "if Leon thinks he's in the same league as Rhydian he's crazy". Talk about bias. What a way to treat your contestants.

Brenda Edwards was by far one of the best contestants the show has ever had.

which is why I'm not watching the Xfactor any longer! It's not about the contestants and who is the better singer, it's about the judges and which "winner" is going to make them the most money...

I stand by my comments. Rhydian was very badly treated in the final, which influenced the final votes... Louis's comments (which are never taken seriously) turned Leon into a victim... which made people vote for him... Rhydian was presented as arrogant and sure to win, which made people switch off.... add to this the VTs, with sympathy for Leon and derision for Rhydian... then Simon's final remarks (which always carry more weight than Louis's) to Rhydian... job done!
