I think in the case of this thread the term "robbed" is being used in the context of being robbed of a desire or opportunity, not of something someone already has.
Just like the way it's used in football matches when a team doesn't win and supporters say they were robbed as they felt that they deserved to win more. Again it's all just down to personal preferences, which is what a discussion forum is all about.
It's a saying used many times in competitions I would say.
