which is why I'm not watching the Xfactor any longer! It's not about the contestants and who is the better singer, it's about the judges and which "winner" is going to make them the most money...
I stand by my comments. Rhydian was very badly treated in the final, which influenced the final votes... Louis's comments (which are never taken seriously) turned Leon into a victim... which made people vote for him... Rhydian was presented as arrogant and sure to win, which made people switch off.... add to this the VTs, with sympathy for Leon and derision for Rhydian... then Simon's final remarks (which always carry more weight than Louis's) to Rhydian... job done! Rhydian's VT was his journey like it or not - btw I do agree it was a bit harsh showing Sharon's comments and Dannii pretending to puke but it was also followed by some amazing comments. By the time Simon made his final comments to Rhyd it was all over and pretty much everyone knows it - Leon was to far ahead. |

Exactly what comments of Louis' in the final turned Leon into a victim - Louis only had praise for Leon in the final.

From people who didn't even make it into the live rounds.
Andy S1 - I remember him being really cheeky ("What are you going to sing?" "In tune hopefully!") and seemed like a Shayne Ward type, before there was SW. The Brothers S3 - When you look at 4Tune and 4Sure, how these lot didn't make it through is a travesty. Especially the black brothers definately could have had a shout. Trevor S2 - Great voice. |

Rhydian
Ben Mills I saw them both battle a truly awful sound system at Haydock on a very wet night in June and they were both great - and very different to each other. I agree with both your choices. I was a Rhydian fan anyway but Ben really impressed me that night too! |

Rhydian.
Hopefully he will succeed in the music industry. And Ben Mills - I am sure his potential was wasted.

How was Ben wasted?
He got a contract made an album and flopped, because no one was interested him. I am not going to go into too many details. He was new to the scene and signed with the wrong people, put it that way. Had no good songwriters and no one 'tweaked' parts of his songs, the promotion was inexistent... many reasons. Anyhow, the thread is about acts that didn't win, not my take on what has happened to Ben Mills. ![]() I could add Maria to my previous list. She showed potential. |

Definitely Rhydian - saw him sing Music of the Night at ALW's birthday concert in Hyde Park. He was absolutely brilliant!

I would say Leon won because he had the biggest journey throughout X Factor and was seen improving week after week - he was definitely a raw talent (which the public love), rather than Rhydian who was the finished article already. The final VTs were slightly edited in Leon`s favour (not that they would have made that much difference to the voting though) as Leon had already endeared himself to the public with how much he had changed from the start. Rhydian was basically giving a masterclass in singing week on week

Olga I agree with you in regards to Leon's journey - not sure I can go as far as agreeing about Rhyd giving masterclasses LOL.

Wrong contract with wrong clauses...signed in desperation...

He's a much better song writer than Sony gave him credit for (or possibly 'allowed' him to be!!). So yes, his potential was definitely wasted - both on the show and on the first album. |

Cassie Compton and Rhydian come to mind. I'd have also liked to have seen Roberta from series one go further, she really didn't deserve to go out first.

Sorry to take this thread away from the main topic but I just want to address this bit -
People DID tweak his own songs - that's the problem. He's a much better song writer than Sony gave him credit for (or possibly 'allowed' him to be!!). So yes, his potential was definitely wasted - both on the show and on the first album. Leon went from bad to worse throughout the show. On the final night it was pretty atrocious as he talked through the songs. Then we got Kylie Minogue to give him the final boost he needed after the general production manipulation by Sharon Osbourne (removed from show), sob stories and Michael Buble getting him on stage (I know what Buble really thinks of his singing as I know guys who worked on the rigs on Buble's concerts) - completely everything in his favour and the massive shopping center publicity campaign in Scotland they did for him while the other two acts (Same Difference and Rhydian got a lot less). I was talking to somebody who works on one of the Tabloids about this and the word was that the producers were pulling out the stops to make Leon look like the winner during the final five weeks. The reason being, Sony BMG were marketing numerous classical artists and couldn't manage another due to PR agency commitments. After Rhydian's show stopping Phantom, Go West and Party started slots - they cut down his market by asking him to just stand there for songs when in fact he was a performer. The same happened with Same Difference by asking them to do other forms of dumbed down songs after some show stopping tunes to give the impression Leon was improving. Yet it's something that only the more observant, calculating viewer would grasp or if you're studying Business, Law or Media studies - otherwise, as with all TV, the manipulation is very easy to fall into. |

^ Beer, if Sony hadn't wanted Rhydian or Same Difference, why did they sign both?

To stop anybody else signing them?! If Sony have them, they have control over what goes on their albums and when they are released!

PS: I am still wondering why Beer is bringing Leon into this thead.
