Hey all

My Sony Surround sounds system has given up on me...and now that I have wooden floors in my lounge there is no hiding any horrible wires to rear speakers.

Are there any reasonable priced systems withs wireless speakers...or at least wireless rear ones!!

Think about it. How are you going to make a noise from the wireless speakers. You will need a receiver for the wireless signal and an amplifier to drive the speaker.

Which means you need a power source. So unless you want to invest in a shed load of batteries that means mains. So if you have to run mains leads to the speakers you may as well run ordinary speaker cable.

The main unit send a radio signal carrying the rear speakers infor to the back of the room where a reciever, that is connected to the mains, converts the signal into an amplified output that powers the rear speakers.
This means that at the back of the room there will be 3 wires (1 power, 2 speaker) replacing the 2 speaker wire that most systems use to get the sound to the back of the room.

Unless as like many people (including myself) you have mains sockets at both the rear and the front of the room and don't want to have to feed speaker cables across the room.

What did you do with the speaker cables for your old Sony system?
If they are in place, just use them for the new speakers.

The system packed up AGES ago, long before we had the wood flooring...just started watching films again and really missing surround sound...hence my question.

We have 4 sockets behind the sofa where we would put the wireless speakers (and amp by the sound of things!) so thats fine..

How much am I looking at....?
