Trying to give my dog a bath tonight and I just cant get her in the bath.

Tried to pick her up and she tried to bite me.

Any ideas?

Dogs hate baths because they are slippery, they hurt themselves. Put a large bath towel or anti-slip bath mat into the bottom of the bath. Try to stay calm (yes, I know!) and use a cup rather than shower head to wash the dog - for some reason they hate showers.

After the bath - lots of treats and praise, and make sure he/she stays warm while drying off.

Yes I use a cup too. They do slip around, look a bit like bambi! The anti-slip mat is a good idea. I think I'll do that next time.

(My brother in law runs one of their vans so it's a shameless plug really. The service is good though ..... he is ALWAYS busy!)

My sheepdog loves having a shower , no hassles at all getting her in & out of the bath.

My dog too.
I have trouble keeping him upright while I massage the shampoo in, because he likes to roll around on his back, in the water.

My sheepdogs have both loved their showers too. I think it's just a case of them getting used to it. I actually think they appreciate being clean when they come out!

Mine used to bite me when I picked him up. I put a lead on him and held it tight to keep hi head away then lifted him

Ours hated having a bath when we used the electric showerhead on her, I think it was something to do with the noise it makes. Now we just use the showerhead that's attached to the taps and she's fine with it. Putting a towel in the bottom of the bath is a great suggestion too as it stops them sliding.

OP, I know it's hard but try not too seem overly anxious when you're lifting your dog. They can sense it and it makes them worse. You might want to think about muzzling her as well, just to keep yourself safe.

Take dog in garden.
Fill bucket of warm water.
Throw water over dog.
Rub on shampoo.
Rinse (With multiple buckets of warm water)

Et Voila
My Springer hates the bath - He won't even go in the bathroom.
He loves the bucket method though

We used to have to muzzle our GSD as he hated being bathed - we would do it as quickly as possible and get him out so as not to distress him too much

My old labby just would shake and her tale would be right between her legs, she would put up with it but hated it

My dog sometimes goes to the Poodle Parlour for a trim and a "shampoo and set". Not that she's aggressive if I try and bathe her, but she does shake her wet fur all over the house. So it's better she gets a hose down elsewhere. It's not cheap, so it's an occasional treat, but she does look and smell lovely when she gets back!

We bought a kids paddling pool for our dog as he is to big to put in the bath.

He is okay with it, he just stands there looking sheepish. It works a treat though.
