my staff has recently gone completely off his dog food,
i have tried changing it and have done so three times ..trying new makes every time...
i can get him to eat cornish pasties and faggots but even they are presenting him with diffuculty eating aswell
he seems to be completely off his food.
he has recently lost a companion in the shape of strider his kinda step brother and he died last july.
but he only stopped eating a week ago so i dont attribute it too his brothers passing.
should i just bite the bullet and take him too the vets or should i just stop worrying and leave him to eat when he is ready.
i am worried but not overly so as he has been eating something its not like he is refusing everything.
thanks for all replies in advance.

I thought from the title you meant your employees

Sorry to hear off your loss and I hope your dog picks up soon.

So did I.

I actually thought, how lucky they are to have an employer who provides food!

I'm sitting here laughing my head off.

First about the staff and then about the faggots. You've cheered me up thanks!

No problem.

If you do not get much response here the Mods have recently opened a Pets section on the forum. I hope someone else is able to offer you more practical advice.

To add: Could he have dental problems?

Add me to the list of people who thought "What sort of people are these & where do they work?" Such a workforce could make up a whole new set of characters for Little Britain.

So - how did the dog get a taste for faggots?

OK, got that out of my system. Only thing to be done is to treat the dog as you would a child who's a fussy eater. Provide proper dog food, leave it down for 30 minutes, take it away if he doesn't eat it. Dogs don't get anorexia - sooner or later, he'll eat. Once he does, make sure he's not fed rubbish food again!

Lmao, this thread has made me laugh sooo much!

I thought it was employees as well!!

On a serious note, our dog started leaving his food and lost his appetite and we got really worried about him. Started buying him alternatives etc... and then made the mistake of making him fresh meals with tuna etc. just to get his taste buds going. It got to the point where his normal dog food would sit around all day untouched. In the end we took him to the vets in a real panic, and it turned out he was just playing us around. He had worked out that if he left his dog food long enough, it would be replaced by something nicer! We were told to not give in, and only give him the same food every day until he learnt we weren't messing. We only left his food down for half an hour max, then we made him watch while it was thrown in the dustbin in front of him (vet's advice) so he knew it was gone for good (it actually got filtered off and shoved in the fridge for later, but he didn't need to know that!!!). After a few days of it he soon got the hang of it! I'm not saying that's whats wrong with your chap, but it's a possibility. I'd take him to the vets tbh, just to be safe. He may have a medical problem causing his loss of appetite, or he may have just developed a liking for junk food (pasties etc). Might be worth thinking about...

Hope that helps and that he gets better soon

My honest advice is take him to the vet NOW. My little dog benny went off his dog food, then would only eat chicken, then not that. I took him to the vet after about 4 days of that. They wsaid it was just a bug. The next day he went yellow and I had to rush him in. He had liver failure. Going off food is a sign something is wrong. Please take him to the vet.

Did he used to love food and eat it no probs? If so then it could mean something is wrong like my Ben. If not then maybe he just doesn't like it. There are many appetising dog foods on the market. Royal Canin for one. Take him to the vet anyway just to check him out though. I don't mean to worry you with my story but that is what happened to me and it was too late for Benny to recover. I wish I had not waited the 4 days and taken him in the very first day.

Northern Food, gone out of fashion down south with the younger generation.
Don't hear about Faggots any more down here.

Agh, thanks.

I live up North, but I've never heard of them before...
I asked a few people in the office today and only one old dear could tell me, so obviously not too popular up here either
