I took on a young cat and her two only surviving kittens. It came today, that the little ones's were booked for their operations (one male on female).
I knew Mum would be calling all day and knew the kittens would be exhausted after their operations (especially the female).
What I never expected was Mum to be attacking them at every opportunity once coming home with them. I have them now separated, it's a nightmare. I can't open my doors without escaping cats and panic of conflict.
Will this pass or has Mum now lost all her mother bond since the sniff of the vets. The kittens are so raw, I find it mean.

I've had to take daughter to the vet on her own a couple of times and mother acted just as you've described yours when I got back with her. Didn't last long .... maybe a day at most?

What age are the kittens? At least 5/6 months I presume if they were being speyed?

She'll quite probably settle down again, my bf's did though she some times can be a bit irritable with her daughter, but they're fine and still show affection to each other. the siblings will likely have the strongest bond.

they maybe trying to suckle her (for comfort more than anything else). I take it they're well past the weaning stage? This is perfectly normal, after a few days the kittens will give up and the Mum will stop clouting them Mum may also smell something strange from the vets and this is making her fearful and aggressive, again this will calm down after a day or two when the scent is gone.

Yes it was for neutering and spaying.
Though she has attacked both tonight. They are roughly 6 months old.
Can I ask you a question? My female has been spayed and the operation looks really sore on her side. I don't know if it is just that she is pure white, that it shows so much. But her Mum was done under the belly. I just feel it is more exposed and I'm real worried about her getting hurt, especially with two other cats in the equation. My main concern is her getting hurt by her Mum.

The wound looks nasty, but she'll be fine.

You will have to keep mum away from them if she's being aggresive though (or supervise them VERY carefully until you're 100% certain shes accepted them again, which doesn't normally take long). The biggest problem you could end up having would be if the stitches get pulled out. Just keep an eye on her for a day or three .... she'll be past the worst bit by then.

Oh I hope you are right. This young female is being a right temperamental grouch (rightly so I suppose). I have never seen such fur fly and hisses in my home.

Yes she'll be feeling cr@p after the anasthetic, as others have said it's worse for the female, more anasthetic, bigger op. Just give her her own space for a while until she feels better.
Some of my females recovered quickly others have taken longer, the're just like us in that respect I guess.

Spot on. Cats can become wary of their own when they've had an operation, even if they've lived together for years. Cats view the world differently to us, and scents are an important part of their lives. Once the odd chemical/pee smell dissipates they'll calm down.

I don't know what's happening with OPs pets but from my experience the 'aggression' is typically nothing more than handbags -- they'll snarl at each other but won't generally hurt each other. Cats are unaggressive by nature, and very rarely will they go any further than is necessary to defend their space.

I dont have a garden and dont have cats
but i have been in gardens where the cats have shat all over and the smell is horrible
so i sympathise with gardeners who wish to get rid of this pest. they are not coming to your cat and giving them anti freeze, the cats are coming to their gardens and drinking it. its a no brainer.
you love your cats, they love their gardens. if you love your cat loads keep it in the house as a house pet.

if you have a neighbours dog that bcomes into your garden then you need to talk to the dogs owners and get yourself a very good fence. Now if the dog were to eat something in your garden then it is not your fault is it?

Well it is more the mother cuffing them and hairs standing on end, but still they call for each other.
It's like the mcan recognise her kittens cries but once she checks them out, she is not quite sure.
It is more the young female I am worried about with the wound on her side.

I am shocked that somebody can come on here and condone poisoning peoples pets with anti freeze, to solve the problem of cat pooping in their garden. You want to watch that somebody who knows you, doesn't report you to animal welfare!

I'd seperate them if the fighting is nasty for a few hours then give them the choice to mingle again, so that the young one doesn't get too stressed as she's the one that needs to heal. I'm sure in a few days they'll be much more back to normal as familiar scents return, and the after effects of the anasthetic have warn off .
