Tesco Cheaper brands
Smutbucket

Seeing the original advertising, I thought mmm that seems ok, I shall take a look at my next shop ....

Does anyone else feel they've been ripped off yet again? The food brands have tesco poundsaver labels on them, so are they just Tesco products with more appealing labels? These brands have then replaced the own label brand so you have no clue as to whether they are cheaper or not - just that they are the cheapest on the shelf at the time of purchase?

They are just brands they've bought in.

I tried one of the odd brand sliced beef packs the other day and was surprised by the quality - better than anything else they sell!

This was my initial thought but it would appear that some of the brands have been packaged for Tesco e.g - I bought a Tikka Sauce which was labelled as 'The Curry Leaf' but when you take a look at the back of the label it is clearly a Tesco product

I know some of the products have just been brought in but clearly others are to fool us into thinking we are buying something new and cheaper

They are trying to compete with the discounters - Aldi mainly but Lidl too - which don't have "own brands" per se but different brands from the mainstream ones.

Knowing Tesco there's probably a method in their madness but I can't fathom it and as rightly pointed out, the have Tesco written all over them no matter how they package them.

they are probably the same quality / cost as thier own and probably put them on the shelves next to thier own cheap label items and people probably have chosen the non-value version over the value based on the label

These Discount Brands have put me right off Tesco.

Asda all the way from now on, one trip to Tesco since the new brands entered and I won't be returning until they are properly separated. The Ham I bought was disgusting and not Tescos as I had thought. They should be in a separate section of the shop for those willing to accept lower quality.

Not all of it is lower quality though.

Tescos has always been dodgy on quality control
some stuff is great, other stuff passable and then you get the really awful sh!te

I would never really buy Tescos own brands as it is such a gamble and overpriced (if it is crap as you don't use it).

The others might seem a couple of pennies more expensive but the quality is overall much much better on the own brand stuff.

Well with any supermarket, I buy one of an item and if I like it, I buy more.

Having worked in the packing industry for many years, I know that most supermarket own label items are the exact same product in all the major supermarkets - same ingredients, same production - just different label.

This is why I have no loyalty to any one supermarket.

I noticed that the "discount" brand was way down on weight compared to what we normally bought

Yeah, these are items being supplied with lower weight / less content - like what Sainsbury's had started to do some years back.

Bought a tin of plum tomatoes (Verdi something) in Tesco and yes it was their print and design all over the tin. But they were 27p as apposed to my normal Napolina which are 3 times this amount. bought awful cheap tinned tomatoes before but you know what...........these verdi thingytomatoes were good.
