Come on in .... if you love cats and want to discuss your cats in here

I have had a few cats over the years, Blobs was the cat I had growing up, she lasted till she was 19.. lovely cat... she was a wild kitten when we got her...

We then had Cleo (b&W) but she got run over and now I have Misty (pic on my profile) she is just so adorable...

I didn't used to be a 'cat person'. I was more of a 'dog person' really. Then on one balmy August evening in 1995, I was coming home and there was a young black cat outside my house. As is my way, I went and said "hello". 13 years later and she's still with me . She knows a soft touch when she sees one and I'm now a confirmed 'cat person'.

Awww. They know how to find their way into our hearts don't they? I've no idea where Toby (actually a female ) came from. She was well nourished, very friendly, and knew how to use a catflap when she found me, so I'm sure she belonged to someone. The horrible thought is that she might have been abandoned . There's no chance of that now .

I don't how anyone could abandon a cat or kittens, You hear stories of people trying to drown kittens or cats and it makes me so angry.

Chances are, if it goes out, that there is another household nearby who thinks it's still their cat.

Toby will be going out, nipping round the corner and falling asleep by the other fire.

They're not stupid

I remember once my cat went into next doors house through a window and explored the upstairs... neighbour found her and was not impressed!

I know. I get furious when I hear stories like that . What kind of ogre would do that?

You could be right . Certainly in her younger days when she went out much more than she does now. She's a grand old lady now, and spends most of her time indoors. She's probably experiencing problems with competition from younger local cats.

Uh oh! Does she still do it?

Toby used to get into next door's sun lounge. Fortunately my then neighbours were OK about it.

Probably not intentional.

Is the house a semi? Was next door attached to your house?

You'd be surprised.

My grandfather used to do this with puppies. He had a female dog, which was let out into the street and it would come back pregnant regularly.

As soon as they were born the bucket would come out.

My dad even offered to pay for the vet's bill to get the dog spayed. "Oh no", replied my grandad, "shouldn't fool with nature".

Bloody old-fashioned ideas!!!!

We found Arwyn in our wheelie bin searching for food. He was very underweight (just over 2kg) filthy and matted all over. My Husband being the big soft lump he is, brought him inside and fed him and I don't think I've ever seen food vanish so quickly.

We contacted Cat Protection who had him checked by a vet (who was horrified at the state he was in) and scanned for a microchip, then we agreed to foster him until either an owner came forward, or we could adopt him. Luckily no-one claimed him so we adopted him last month.

He's been a bit sickly and had a stay at the vets after getting seriously ill a few weeks ago, but now he's doing really well and looks so much healthier. He's such a loving and gorgeous cat. It's hard to believe someone obviously didn't want him.

Here he is the day we found him

and a couple of weeks ago after we got him back from the vets.

People make me so cross with their attitude towards cats...there was a man who lived a few doors away and he bought two little kittens..he fussed them and loved them, until he decided he didnt want cats anymore..borded up the cat flap and bought a puppy

That meant two cats with no homes looking for somewhere to go in our street..one neighbour took one...and we eventually took the other..buying all the paraphanalia that went with her

A few weeks later we got a knock from another lady on our street, who informed us that she, infact, had taken on the cat..and would rather we didnt encourage her to our house as it was making her confused..so reluctantly, after a bit of discussion, and because we only wanted the best for the cat, we agreed we would step out so that she would have a chance to settle

6 months later, we were horrified to see removal vans outside this ladies house..after a few enquiries, we discovered she was emigrating to Australia...so my daughter walked down to ask what she was doing about the cat...and only to be told she was leaving her behind, as cats are more attached to places than people anyway

I was so cross, as by then I had got both my cat and my dog, and this cat is afraid of dogs, so even though I would have taken her in, she would no longer come in our house

Luckily the neighbour who originally took her sister in has reluctantly taken her in, and she looks fab now, always with a new collar and very content...and she always pops to our house for a few treats at the door, which her new owner doesnt mind me giving her...shes such a lovely cat, but it still upsets me that shes been dumped twice

Oh Rosemary, that is awful. How can anyone do this to cats. Really does make me angry. I hate people who dump cats, animals are for life, not such when it suits you or when they are just small and cuddly kittens.

It is a sad world we live in at times

I never used to be a cat ~ or any animal person really. Then one day, back in the dark ages, a friend asked me to look after her kitten temporarily ... didn't have a clue what to do with her but it was only short term so I reluctantly and nervously took her in and .... she spent her remaining 17 fabulous years with me

I couldn't imagine my life without cats in it now. And better yet, have converted my whole family into adoring cat lovers aswell.

When I was a kid they would get a jug of water thrown in their general direction and shooed out of the garden (bad parents ) ... now all the waifs and strays get brought in for cuddles and biscuits

I was petrified of cats until my dad bought our cat, Bubble. I love her to pieces now! Couldn't imagine life without her.
