These odds are now being offered at William Hill Bookmakers for Christmas number One:

Pop Idol winner 2003 3 / 1

The Darkness - Don't let the bells end 5 / 1

Cliff Richard - Santa's List 33 / 1

The Darkness!. Especially as the 'b' side is 'Friday Night'.

I am pretty damned sure it's gonna be The Darkness - even the title has me in hysterics.

Definately The Darkness "Don't let the Bells end" isn't even on the album so the people who bought the album like me will go out and buy this, a certain number 1!

It's a great B side track too! Friday night is a great song.

Haha, it shoud be on the album if they are gonna release it, strange. Why dont they make it a double A-Side with Friday Night, so make a video for both songs. That would make a bit more sense.

I think they'll probably make it a double A side - especially as Friday Night is undoubtably the most radio-friendly track on the album.

I would LOVE for them to have the Christmas number one....but i won't hold my breath. The Pop Idol winner will be a heavy, HEAVY hitter come Xmas.

I think it is a bit sneaky that they deliberately haven't put this on the album. They obviously know that because it isn't on the album the avid fans LIKE ME, will go out and buy the single, boosting their chance to go to number one!

It would be a real shame if the Pop Idol winner won! Girls Aloud had it last year, it's unfair on the music business if they win - takes the competitve side out!

OH MY GOD, IT'S HAPPENED! At only 26 I have become old. I have no idea who Alex Parks, The Darkness, Electric Six or Avid Merrion are. I shall be asking for my pipe and slippers and complaing about how things aren't as good as they were during the war next. If I do will someone take me outside and shoot me, please!

Alex Parkes - Fame Academy Winner
Avid Merrion - Celebrity Stalker. Star of the C4 TV Program "Bo Selecta!"
The Darkness - The band that everybody is talking about. Falsetto Singing, and Classic Rock Riff's. Recorded a proper Rock Christmas record with Aerosmith's producer
Electric 6 - Could be considered novelty band, sort of Rock with a disco beat. Biggest hit so far is "Gay Bar" (Girl, I want to take you to a gay bar...). Releasing their cover of Queen's Radio GaGa

Not really a rock person. I only like dance music. But as you say I still should have heard of them!

My sister is 28 and knows who all of those are apart from Alex Parks. But come on, everyone including my parents have heard of The Darkness, and they are in their late 50s! I am 20 myself, I reckon you're just out of touch its nothing to do with your age.

Like I said, I am a clubber mate and dance music is my thing . Rock music bores me to tears. I don't listen to commercial radio as it's all r'n'b and pop, and don't bother looking at the charts as it's all teeny-bopper crap. So The Darkness means nothing to me!

Haha, dance music, oh dear. Do people still listen to that?

Seriously though, if there is one thing that is boring its dance music, for me, I want interesting lyrics also, which is why I like rock and urban music. Teeny bopper crap, cheesy aint it? Almost as cheesy as those terrible dance songs with the most laughably basic childish lyrics ever, being sung by singers who couldnt make it singing proper stuff.

I shall give the Darkness a whirl. As I really liked that Everscence track. But I doubt I could listen to a whole album of their warbling.

Dance music is upbeat and fun. The lyrics will never win the nobel prize for lit. But who cares when you are off your face?
