You're a compare, not a judge. Shut up!

Okay, you're in your 70's and apparently, in the world of 'Showbiz' (said with tongue firmly in cheek) we, the public, are supposed to adore you. Personally, I think you're way past your sell by date, your jokes are crap and it's time you retired. But, you're still here. If you wish to remain, please refrain from giving an opinion on the judgement of others though, and leave it up to the people who actually know what they're talking about. We, apparently can't chose to not put up with your cheesy, crappy 'jokes', we're stuck with you - what we can do is ask you to please SHUT UP, and just stick to comparing, however crappily you do it.

Nice to see you? ****ing NOT.

He is in his 80s - in fact nearly 81!

Ok, so I was a few years out.

The facts still stand.

Or are we supposed to 'feel sorry for him'?

He's had his day, quite a lot of days actually when you consider that he really was never and still isn't really that funny. God knows how he got this far and I believe he's run out of brownie points. I've worked for years and I will never get that pity, and I'm sure you have.

So, goodbye Bruce. Married to a woman almost 50 years your junior.

I really don't see any need to pity him. And he certainly hasn't earned the right for anyone to 'respect' him so much!

He's really got under your skin hasn't he?

Many people like Bruce and he is part of SCD. Personally there are times when I shout at the tv for him to just get on with it because I want to hear what the judges say - but you have to hand it to him - 81, still working, still dancing with Tess (albeit briefly!) still active, good luck to him.

I have to say - I never really liked bruce when I was ickle and he was on the Generation Game/Play Your Cards right etc.. but at that young age I guess I was a bit more tolerant as I didn't have control of the TV remote (in fact... didn't have one of those for a lot of Brucie's time on TV!)...

I also find him quite cringeworthy... and had my olde-parente mum in stitches at hers last weekend by muting him every time he came on.
I also almost gave her a coronary by making a comment that I won't repeat here - but suffice to say.. some of the "older generation" (she's mid 70s) also find him a little embarrassing.

That being said - even though he's not my cup of caramel latte... he's had a good long run in the industry and I even know one "young-un" who really likes him and thinks he's great.

My mother thinks he's standing down anyway at the end of the year (Wogan taking over?

I have sympathy with all those for whom Brucie gets under their skin... I mute or FF depending on when I'm watching the show....
Also respect that some people like him - and that's fair enough too...

I too press the Mute button. I haven't heard a word he's said in 4 years. Trouble is, I also have to mute Tess, so there are long periods of silence on a Saturday night! But it makes for a much more enjoyable program.

I've never liked Bruce ever. I felt like when I was a kid my nan forced me to watch him. But unfourtantly all my friends love him so if I watch it with them I have to listen to him and get dirty looks if I don't laugh along and my mum loves him so if I watch it at home I have to listen to him. I just put up with him, I know a lot of people do like him and find him funny.

But if he does leave and Wogan replaces him I might have to kill anyone that makes me listen to Wogan go on.

I also don't understand why Brucie is supposed to be a national treasure?! He is just awful, utterly cringeworthy and unbelievably irritating. If he really is meant to be a treasure- can't we bury him somewhere?

That was one of the comments I made to my mother that had her choking on her horlicks...

One of my mates was texting me thru the show last night - apparantly Nicole Cutler had made some comments in a NOTW article which has brought his "Doddery I am NOT" malarky... although... seriously.. yesterday was "satire" on his Word-of-the-Day Toilet paper?

Another Brucie bashing thread! So shoot him..he is 81. I can't think of another presenter that could do the job as well as Brucie ,and I will be sad when he decide to go. I have felt embarrassed for singers that go past their sell by date ..like Sir Cliff but I can honestly say I have never felt embarrassed for Brucie.Still each to their own I suppose.

I don't mind Bruce too much, but I wish he would stop the "doddery" comments. We got the message after the first 100 times he said it. It must make Matt Cutler feel uncomfortable.

Bruce's wife is actually 49 - Bruce is 80, so your 50 years is a slight exaggeration. They have been happily married for over 20 years.

Can't understand why the bloke seems to upset people so much? He doesn't bother me in the slightest.

Well I'm sure he realises after so many (many) years in the business that he can't please everybody all of the time. I'm sure he doesn't care in the slightest - although that being said - according to my mate who'd read the Nicole Cutler article - he really seemed to have taken that to heart with the endless Doddery I am Not, and "members of the press - that was a deliberate mistake"...

I got endlessly embarrassed by my dad when he was MUCH younger than Bruce making jokes HE thought were funny that everybody cringed at. Didn't stop me from loving him as a person... but I couldn't STAND to hear him be such an embarrassment.
Umm... not that I actually love Bruce as a person.... as I don't know him.
Just think he's not amusing in the slightest on the TV and I have to mute him because he is the main annoyance for me in the show.

Just as Tess is for others further up the thread - I only got irritated with her last year for the CLANGING comments about Matt and Flavia... she actually reminded me of a really jealous girl when I was at Uni who made these pseudo-bitchy comments... I was quite surprised last year by that.

Bruce is the compère, not the 'compare'. He's beyond that. But I do wish he'd stop that 'doddery' nonsense - it'll backfire badly on him.

I really like Brucie, but I am finding his comments 'odd' this year. And it's obvious now the government wont allow him his knighthood - so maybe this is his way of 'going out with a bang'

The "doddery" catchphrase is beginning to annoy me, and I quite like Bruce. I'm waiting for someone in the audience to shout "oh yes you are" after the "Not" but I guess no-one would dare as they might get thrown out!

That's how I feel about him as well.

The bad jokes are an established conceit - he and Frankie Howerd thrived on reacting to people groaning at their material. What compromises that these days is that they're often far too convoluted for him to follow on the autocue. I don't really know why they don't bring in someone like Barry Cryer to write some better gags for him.

Maybe it was just me, but I thought Bruce F was a bit better last night. He seemed a bit sharper, more fun and was clearly aware of the recent criticism of him.

I can't stand him! Terrible, laboured toe-curlingly unfunny jokes.

I record the show & FFward all of Bruce.

I usually sky+ SCD so luckily I can fast forward past the bits where he speaks. OP I feel exactly the same about him, and his completely unfunny jokes.
