I'll have you know that I am far from ordinary !!

My point was that everyone makes mistakes - and it's a live show, which many presenters paid a lot more than Bruce can't cope with without making a mistake. It's easy to appear slick when you get a second chance.

Look at Last Choir Standing, for example, Nick Knowles in particular made so many fluffs during the live show & no-one is calling for his head ( in fact he just gets a golden handcuff deal) (not that I'm saying NK is a great presenter - I'm just pointing out that there are nearly always mistakes in live shows, and I don't mind one or two here & there)

It's a mistake easily made and should not be used as an extra excuse to hang him by - the jokes are enough

Here are the professionals' views on the matter (though it is posted in the Sun): http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage...cle1790460.ece

daisylane,

Thank you for that. What we have to remember is that the vast, vast majority love Brucie on Strictly Come Dancing - I mix with hundreds of people and I haven't met anyone yet who doesn't like him - in fact they say the show wouldn't be the same without him.

We have to remember there are about 100 or so people on this forum who don't like him - but there are millions away from this forum who do.

Brucie is a bit of a legend but should he retire soon, I don't think it would be a bad idea to give 'Strictly' a bit of a makeover.

Its been running a long time and is perhaps becoming a little bit repetetive and predictable.

I find I can mostly guess what the judges are going to say and score (apart from Craig's 1 for Gary!) and I think it would be refreshing to have some new blood on the panel (but PLEASE not Karen Hardy!)

I'd like to see a 'cheeky' pair of presenters who would ad lib and be witty rather than reading from a tired old script with lame jokes each week. There are plenty of contenders out there.

how about Anton? He looks and even sounds like he could be Bruce's son. Quite witty too

I have to agree with you, its time for a change now.

According to last May's Sunday People, Bruce Forsyth is not ready to quit Strictly after all.

He told the paper: "For me, Strictly Come Dancing is my ideal job. I love the show, I love the contestants and I love working with my co-presenter Tess Daly. We are like a family there so I won't just be going back for the next series, but the one after that, and the one after that until they tell me not to any more. It means such a lot to me that people don't want me to retire so I'm not going to."

Brucie's humour is decidedly 60s and un PC but then so is much of his audience. As that generation of (music hall) comics that could be used to present ( has never been replaced at least by anyone funny) he has no obvious successor. Vernon Kay? The Pub landlord? Paul Merton? Even more Ross? There's Graham Norton- but his jokes are no better (he also does Nancy jokes) and he's not obviously more competent and his dancing knowledge is non-existant.

The alternative is a straight presenter without the humour - airlift in Scholfield or Holly or just use Tess. Lose the comedy totally though.

Like to know who these funny presenters are - experience suggests its Ant and Dec or no one. The BBC isn't going to allow anyone to do adlib comedy on a show thats going out around 6 PM with lots of kids watching - its a recipe for mistakes and some crisis.

Why does everyone insist we need "comedy" in SCD?

Its a show about celebs learning to dance and entertaining us along the way, not about the host trying to be funny an taking too much airtime. A quip here and there is all that's needed - not a full blown variety routine.

And Graham Noton's Nancy jokes?? There was a clue in the programme - they were searching for a girl to play a character called - wait for it - Nancy!! (and IIRC - he cracked the joke ONCE in the whole series)

Why should dancing knowledge be a prerequisite - he's not marking the contestants?

I don't like Schofield, but he manages to present without knowing an axle from his elbow and Graham Norton managed to present IDA without breaking into song.

No one is irreplaceable - and that includes Bruce.

“I know Brucie doesn't write is own scripts”

Erm, check the credits, he is listed as scriptwriter - so probably gets paid a bit more for that.

I hope the autocue will go easy on him so he can ad-lib more. He seems the best when left alone without those corny comments he made. Someone shoot the scriptwriters!

100% agree ,he is such a natural communicater he does not need so much scripting (his own or others) ,this would i think answer most of his critcs.

As said elsewhere Brucie helps to write his own gags and so even if he didn't actually think it up himself he was involved and must have approved.

I find it hard to believe. You should search him out in youtube for Have I got News for You. He was wicked there!

As others have said Anton (I think) would be the best choice to take over. He is now getting involved in presenting so what better program for him to present.
