Enough about Gary Rhodes, every contestant know how to improve their dances, and put more hours of trainning, how could he had 2 hrs for his muscle and for his footwork only an hour, and he so much of himself, and not gentleman at all, shouted on his pro dancer on national tv, and asking to vote him once more , because he want to do ballroom,
30 minutes Gary
Hopefully he's out tonight,

he shouldn't have signed up if he couldn't hack putting in the hours.

I so hope he's gone tonight.

His comittment to training was woeful, if you're a fan of the show then you know the hours that need to be put in, especially by someone with no dance training at all, it's no mystery, in fact they make a big thing of it, so Gary, please don't claim to be a fan, because you blantently are not.

Christine is appearing live on TV everyday, which will involve hours of behind the scenes meetings, rehursals etc, ditto Andrew, who has the 'getting up at stupid-o-clock' thing as well - and I've heard neither of them moan. Tom is filming, John is doing his live shows etc etc

A couple of series ago didn't Peter Schmicheal (sp) have to travel to Denmark every week to commentate on football.

A pathetic little man who thought the dancing lark would be easy, that is all.

And Craig, although nervous, was actually a damm fine chef

Craig's??? I think not.
The hour you spend in the gym EVERY morning could have been better spent doing all the other "important" stuff you need to do, thus leaving you an extra hour to spend with Karen later on.

Actually I believe Craig did Celebrity Masterchef and reached the final.... where the contestants were thrown in at the deep end (without training from a pro) and having to prepare high quantity of meals in a restaurant and to TA cadets ...

I don't recall him whinging about how the chefs couldn't do what he does for a living either...

And you say you've watched the show for years ???!!! ”

Hear, hear! PRECISELY my thinking...

I am afraid that I don't have much sympathy for the celebrities who complain that their schedules prevent them from training for many hours. Isn't Tom Chambers filming Holby City and preparing his wedding at the moment? I haven't seen or read anything about him moaning so I admire him for that. All of the celebrities have busy lives, with their careers, families, etc. and it should be a given that once they sign up for SCD they commit themselves to the hours involved.

Another reason why I don't appreciate celebrities moaning is that the professional dancers have additional duties of teaching and choreographing (and listening to the celebrities' moans!) which they seem to take in their stride.

The people I do feel really, really sorry for are the celebrities who pick up an injury and are forced to sit out of training. That must be incredibly frustrating and I am sure I'd be the first to have a bit of a whinge in that situation...

I dont particularly like Gary and his commitment hasnt been godd enough and I hope he goes tonight, but I dont think he was out of order with his shout at Karen. She snapped at him first and he just snapped back. That is how I see it anyway.

Irrespective of his hours training, he is a poor dancer anyway and it must be terribly frustrating when you simply cannot do something no matter how many times you are shown. We all have a breaking point.

I think Lisa Snowdon is (or was) getting up at four to do her radio show as well.

Craig's been a good sport about things like this in the past - like when Dennis Taylor pointed out that Craig wouldn't be able to do snooker. He went, and gave it a shot, and - er - couldn't, from what I remember. Gary just seems to be horrible at taking criticisms.

On the bright side, he's obviously three times as good for Craig, if he managed a three instead of one.

Apparently Andrew and Ola are both carrying (minor, but painful) injuries in the form of broken toes. I haven't heard either of them mention it on the show, though. I hope the Nurofen is working...

Don't some of the celebs train for 70 hours a week? So how can he hope to compete with them. He could have dispensed with his early morning workout and given more time to Strictly training. 10 hours over 2 weeks is a very poor show. Maybe he thought it would be easy peasy.

I can't take to Gary on SCDing, he just seems to moan and expect marks for underperforming, I don't think he would tolerate a junior chef in his kitchen who only did 10 hours in 2 weeks training

I do agree that it's no one's fault but his own about how packed his day is. However, perhaps if he was enjoying the training more he would be more inclined to put in the time?

The thought of Karen shouting at me for several hours a day isn't particularly appealing ....

I agree and have made this point before - I think it has been a complete shock to him how hard SCD actually can be.

He's a michelin starred chef with a string of upmarket, very successful restaurants. Add to this his tv/radio appearances and the successful range of recipe books and it becomes very clear that he doesn't need SCD to raise his profile.

No doubt he got a nasty surprise when he found it needed more commitment than he'd anticipated - but he's not really a nonentity. I may be wrong, but I'd venture that more people recognise Gary than Tom Chambers or Austin Healey for example. I'd never heard of Christine Bleakley until SCD (although now I really like her) and I'd only heard of Lisa Snowdon in relation to George Clooney. I have heard of Don Warrington but he isn't a household name.

I usually read the spoiler threads to find out who is out, however there's no spoiler and it's all got a bit nasty on the spoiler thread... so nice to dip into this thread where things are a lot more pleasant... Also quite a novelty going into the sunday show not knowing who is out... brings a good element of tension to the show... maybe I'll avoid the spoliers in future....

What you don't know Laura is that back stage gossip amongst celebrities, dancers and crew is that Austin allegedly had 6 months private dance training prior to this competition. So much for gifted amateurs!

Regardless of whether that's true or not he still is talented. I can remember in the last series, prior to the show Penny Lancaster also took private lessons and they didn't help her at all.

Gary may be a fantastic chef but, he wasn't a dancer and his lack of commitment only served to alienate him from the viewers. Rightly or wrongly we all love a trier and that's why the likes of Peter S and Kenny L went much further than Gary in their series.

Thats less than someone whosbeen to stage or drama school has and it didn't mean he'd be any good

I hear what you're saying Ignazio but, you just can't buy the kind of positive publicity that SCD brings to a participant.

I agree with this - I knew who Gary was, I may have remembered Austin was a Rugby player but noy his name or anything else and Tom I'd didn't know from Adam.

Gary is a very successful guy - chose the wrong time to do SCD though.

Yaaaaaaaaaaay. Gone.

Back to the people that actually can be bothered to make an effort. Sorry for Karen but Will Not Be Missed.

I wonder, do I have a dislike of tall men? I just can't seem to warm to Gary, who has just got the boot, Andrew or Mark. They just come across as having no personality or sense of humour? They are all quite Tall!

My own Darling witty husband is 5' 8" BTW.

I have to admit Gary Rhodes was the first TV chef I took any notice of, probably because he was young and good looking in a funky way at the time he first came on TV - I think Ainsley is the only other TV chef that has made me want to try their recipes. Long before Jamie came on the scene Gary and Ainsley tried to show how easy cooking could be. Gary was known for fab puddings! I have always liked him and think he is very good at was he does and he was so out of his depth on SCD - he really misjudged the committment necessary.

I still don't cook much though LOL!

I am surprised as I met him once years ago when we were dining in one of his restaurants (brilliant food!) and he was there. He was utterly charming and spent loads of time at each of tables talking to diners. He was really personable and my Mum especially loved him.

Gary should have made more time for training but I am sympathetic about having other commitments.”

In SCD5 Len gave a thundering finger-wagging lecture to Kelly after she turned in an unambitiously choreographed samba. Later it came out that Kelly had only 7 hours training, unavoidably disrupted by family bereavement.

We do not truly know Gary's reason for the 10 hours preparation for the jive. Reading between the lines those two fought like cats and dogs. SCD6 is light entertainment and BBC would not like the whole truth to get out if it was going to open up a can of worms. Karen did not do well with Brian in SCD5 either, with him going out in round 1, to my eye unhappy with the partnership. Some couples because of personality conflict simply have no chance of working out.

Whenever the signposts point in opposite directions, I am inclined to take a pull and make allowances for information below the surface unavailable or made unavailable to me.

With thanks for Cat Balou's convincing firsthand impression of Gary's personality, I would be inclined to make allowances for factors unknown and film snips not shown - the way that Len did not know about Kelly's late father.

But the judges can only judge on the night they can't give better marks if the celeb is busy or gets ill
