Changing program time
kaycee
05-10-2008
Week 1 of Strictly - we had Strictly first, followed by Merlin.

Weeks 2 and 3 - Merlin first followed by Strictly.

Next week it's back to Strictly first, followed by Merlin.

WHY? What's the point of keep changing the times like this - it's as bad as going into a supermarket and finding they keep moving the sugar every week!!!!! (Not that I buy sugar very often, but you know what I mean!)

I know exactly what you mean! Things being constantly moved around in the supermarket is one of my pet hates. I'm also terrified of missing the start of Strictly as I quite often work on Saturdays. It's hard work being an SCD fan.....

Very annoying, I have to check Teletext and the TV guide about twenty times each on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday to ensure that we definitely, definitely don't miss any of Strictly! xx

It's bad enough they don't show the results show live on Saturday night, but then to jump the time around on Sunday ...GRRR

I don't mind them moving the Saturday show around, but the Sunday show not starting until 8.00pm last week and 8.10pm this weeks stinks!

Especiall as it is a family programme and loads of youngsters watch it and have school Mondays ... it would be better if it was on a 6ish

AND I thought one of the reasons for the elimination show on Sunday was that little 'uns would be able to watch it and not have to stay up quite so late on Saturdays.
I would have thought most under 10's would be in bed by 20.10 on the night before school.
(There and again, what do I know about kid's bedtimes, my 'children' are in their 30's).
In Points of View just on this was addressed. Doubt anything will be done about it. The Beeb are just chasing ratings nowadays, I think.

In the Radio Times letters page someone wrote in with this point saying 'why?' as it was one of the main reasons given for the change in the first place - the reply was basically that the later time get higher viewing figures.

Next week it's on at 5.50!

It's annoying, isn't it?

Basically, I reckon the Beeb are just trying out different strategies to maximise the viewing share for the whole evening.

Still, at least so far we've been spared corny "Merlin" jokes like the arrow ones we had for Robin Hood in the last series.

no doubt Brucie will be suitably spell-binding!!

Although they already have Tesspit as the resident witch!!

Basically time change is due to the X factor

I couldn't believe it when they said that. I was so annoyed.

You're right. There's been some kind of agreement this year that they won't schedule the two shows opposite each other as they both attract a lot of the same audience. It's been lauded in the press as a move toward common sense.

Not sure about this as I get confused when programmes move their times but then, I am getting on a bit and I do get easily confused!

This Sunday it's 8.15pm though only 45 minutes so hopefully less padding! Am I being too optimistic?

Of course. As is every channel out there, however they're funded.

Interesting move, I wonder who started the ball rolling on that, given the respective ratings of the two shows...
