I've been using one of these since the beginning of the year, but I've never been impressed by the brightness of the picture. When I turn the set on the picture is very dark and it can take up to an hour before the picture is of acceptable brightness - and that's with the brightness and contrast set to maximum! If I use the 'default' settings the picture is very dark at all times.

Is there anything I can do or is it a job for a service engineer? I'd like to get this sorted as the warranty runs out at year end.

Definitely doesn't sound right. Is this the same on all inputs (its own Freeview tuner, a DVD player etc)? I'd be calling your retailer to sort it out.

OP, what you are describing might be a problem with the backlight.

As suggested above, getting in touch with your retailer is the first thing to do.
