They don't just get handed over £1 million quid. I can't see her being able to barter her prize on the streets even if she wanted to.

Also "ex" is the operative word.

Is this about Rachel?
Just becuase she did drugs doesn't mean she always will.

You do realise that many artists are using drugs, even 'superstars' and they are given multimillion deals.
That's the down-side to showbiz.
There's a reason why they say 'sex, drugs & rock n' roll'

They dont actually get £1m - thats just the value of the record contract.

Considering the number of people on drugs in the music industry it doesn't seem to worry record labels too much.

Yes. They don't get given £1m. They get a record deal worth £1m. They can't spend it.

Also "ex" is a key word

The winner will be promoting especially to children - the X-Factor winners main target is usually 7-30 years old.

There is no way they will let even an ex-junkie win the X-Factor.

But arent there already and hasnt there been in the past literally hundreds of artists who have had problems with drugs. Im sure a lot of them have earned millions, so why not.

Well, they had Sharon O for years on the programme and her hubby is well known to have had various substance use issues in the past.

... at a time when she was known for being the nations favourite "mother". Her husband doesn't come into it - in fact he was kept away most of the time.

Maybe, but the point is about having people associated with the show and drug use. If it were that big an issue, would Sharon have been there?

Doing drugs is NOT a deterrent to having a record deal - Pete Doherty, Amy Winehouse etc!

I can't help imaging the scene, when Simon is waiting for the winner to turn up at the studio, some talentless lands in with a message on a scrap of paper signed by the winner, saying that she had handed over the contract to Jeff the Junkie for goods supplied

Even 'good' ppl like Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue appeared on the show. They did drugs in the 90's.
So what, should we ban those who's done drugs forever?
This is a very immature way of seeing things

This isn't a post criticising Rachel's background .. it's just a general point.

I think it's more about the x-factor brand than the actual record contract .. I don't think that Simon will be interested in whether the winner could be trusted with a £1m contract or not, it's more about the x-factor brand and how the person represents that.

Like I say, this is a general comment and applies to all of them and not just Rachel.

Exactly - Nobody seems to mind Robbie Williams or George Michael going off the rails either. But there's definitely a stigma around heroin and crack cocaine. Run of the mill cocaine addiction seems a more respectable choice somehow.
