They probably have thought of another name but were advised against it as they're already known as 'Girl Band'.
I don't see what is wrong with that name.
I would say that Bad Lashes needs to be changed more given that there is already an established, Mercury Prize nominated act with a very similar name.
Of course, chances are that they will both disappear to obscurity before the name becomes an issue.

Bat For Lashes.
I would guarantee Bad Lashes have absolutely no idea whatsoever that there are such things as Mercurys.
Girl Band is such a stupid name, I detect a touch of irony, but one that also says "We couldnt be bothered", its like calling a shop selling PC's "Computer Shop" or something. 
I like them both, quite post-modern, esp Girlband.
