Will Ruth singing in Spanish become a gimmick?

I really like Ruth, shes my favourite 25+ but I can't help but think that she will probably sing in Spanish then English in each song which isn't bad, but I think it will become a little tiresome eventually and almost like a gimmick. I'm not alone am I?

This is what worries me.

I hope the singing in Spanish is an occasional thing or I fear people will start to get bored of her.

I think she can do whatever she wants. Imagine if she won (I don't want her to!) but she recorded all the songs for her album in Spanish. Now that would be interesting and something never done before!!

Is she going to cope?
Is she going to sing in Spanish every week? Will that work?
Because she has such a lovely voice when in Spanish but will everyone enjoy that and remember when she tried to sing a full song in English? Simon wasn't that impressed.

I feel sure that people will vote for songs they cannot understand. Perhaps there will be subtitles

However, she does sound better in Spanish

If shes going to sing in Spanish then I think its best she does what she has been doing and picks well known songs, so we actually know what shes saying when we actually don't if that makes any sense?

Wel she has a good voice and connects with you. She also has the advantage from Simons point of view that she could sell in the UK & the Spanish speaking market. That gives a pretty big total market.

I think they need to do the Spanish thing from week one for her. That will bring her in the fans. After a few weeks she can slowly let go of it. She has a lovely personality and is very passionate about singing and I think this will come across.

She could kinda do a Rhydian. He had his 'camp' gimmick and then slowly got away from it. Ruth singing in Spanish is not a gimmick but it is for sure, something that will make her stand out. They need to play on her exotic side.

she sings so beautifully in both english and spanish but i think maybe if she tones down the spanish one week then uses it to her full advantage the next.

I don't think she'll do it all the time, she should limit it to once every few weeks or when she does ballads.

Shes a gimmic, she wasnt gonna get to the final 24 until she did that Spanish bit, then ok she stood out by doing the spanish so it was a good move on her part... but her voice is hardly anything special, without the gimmic shes not good enough.

Never done by who before? Someone who has won X=Factor or in general?

I see no reason for it to be considered a "gimmick" to sing in her native language.

It will be something different, not sure that it will be a gimmick. Cowell obviously drew inspiration from his own Il Divo, who have sold millions of records singing in English, Spanish and Italian. I think Ruth will probably sing alot in Spanish and I hope so to, because she sounded better that way.

Two things could happen to her, both at either end of the scale - this could go either very well or horribly wrong. That either viewers would find this very new, endearing, interesting, could attract male votes, or people will get fed up of it and this Spanish thing could wear off very quickly.

I don’t think people will be bothered if she sings in Spanish, I mean look at Il Divo they have had 3 number 1 albums in the UK so there is obviously a market and a fan base for Spanish singers, I think people will fall in love with her voice and the emotion she shows when singing in Spanish, I don’t think people will see it as a gimmick.

I understand! I only worked out one of her songs when she did the chorus in English

In order to progress in the competition I think she needs to exploit the sexy, foreign vibe thing to its fullest potential. It's her big selling point over the girls with more powerful voices. However, she can't rely on the singing in Spanish thing all the god damn time, she needs to find other ways of doing it (not sure how, clothes, song choice, dance?) But if she chooses her matieral and approach carefully, I think she can do well.

She also has the advantage of having dannii as her mentor, who did a great job last year finding the right songs for the boys. Leon and Rhydian could have gone very badly wrong last year in the wrong hands, but her choices were (with one or two exceptions) very well thought out.
